Videotron introduces 6GB data plan for $30/month

Quebec has been heated with competition over the past several months, mainly due to Videotron stepping up their network to “4G”. Majority of the carriers have introduced an “unlimited Quebec” plan that basically includes unlimited local and long distance calling within Quebec. Stepping up the game once again is Videotron by offering “for a limited time” a 6GB data plan for $30/month. Nice move and nothing sketchy was in the fine print either. Let’s see how long it’ll take Rogers, Bell and TELUS to bring it back…

  2. Rogers, Bell, Telus already had this plan, it’s a promotion every summer for them, beside Rogers was the first to come with 6 GB data plan for $ 30

  3. I still fail to see how Videotron plans are really that competitive.

With Fido you get City Fido for 35$, add 10$ and you get unlimited Canada Call and text with no access/911 fees. Throw in caller ID and 6 gigs for 30$ (you can still get this if you insist) and you have unlimited Canada with 6 gigs for about 95$ per month, tax included. Additionally, you enjoy better coverage, Canada wide.

More competition is good but there’s ways to get better then advertise deal with almost any carrier.

    • Well for CityFido you are only confined into Zones where you can call canada-wide from otherwise it’s $0.25 to call anywhere in Canada when you are out of the selected urban areas. For example, it’s $95(like you said) to call Canada-Wide when you are in the Toronto or Vancouver and pay 25 cents to call Canada-Wide when you are in Barrie.

Thus just go with New Entrants and you get more for $35 since CityFido and them share the same zones

  7. The only way you can get a 6gb with telus is through Corp plans right now.

Vidéotron is playing this one hard.

    I like.

    • Like stated before, every year at the end of the summer they come out with a promo for +5 gig with any plan over $XX amount per month. I have 6 gig myself on telus, but it is lack luster as you can only get it at certain times and still is limited. I’m chompin at the bit to get onto Winds soft cap true unlimited.

  8. Why pay $30 for 6GB when you can get 5GB for $10!If it doesn’t allow tethering then public mobile is the better option in Quebec

    • They won’t. And you would know it if you live in Quebec. Their plans are pretty much the same as the Big 3.

  13. Hey Mobilicity and Wind fans, you say you have $10 unlimited plans? Do you think it’s really unlimited if your phone works in a super limited area? I’d rather pay a little extra to know my phone is going to work. Plus, there is fine print in Wind’s unlimited data. Once you hit a certain amount, they throttle the crap out of your internet.

    • a little extra meaning 3x the price?
Your comment is disingenuous in the least. The amount they throttle you once you hit 5gb is contingent on network traffic. I’ve hit the cap before and although youtube and large file downloads suffer, you dont notice a difference in browsing or email. Would you be more satisfied if wind said 10$ for 5gb of data with no overage charges and you can still use data? It is unlimited, they just lower the priority of data hungry users.
Also, i understand that wind’s network is a bit unreliable, but honestly saving 80 bucks per month MORE than justifies this. Besides, all this crying about poor wind coverage… I’ve never experienced even a hiccup, and i’m on my phone constantly.

    • I’m not complaining $10 for 5gb from wind or mobi. Throttle all they want since u won’t be charged any pay per use anyways when u go over 5gb. Go with videotron since u pay additional when u pass 6gb. Plus Quebec doesn’t have much choice

    • Why pay $ for something that doesnt get you what you need?

Wind gets me more than I need… More than any other company can give me.

You compare wind to a buffet for 1 dollar where all you offer is ketchup.
Well rogers would be $3 for 5 packs of ketchup, plus a tomato pressing recovery fee (TPRF).

  15. for all you fido customers let me give you a cheap work around to get unlimited data for only $ 10 . Find a way to get a regular fido phone , anything from fido but a smartphone , and have the csr add the update the imei of that phone on ur equipement list. Once that is done asked to have the $ 10 unlimited mobile browsing add on , or if you already have the $10 value pack it will be just an extra $5 bucks .
Been having unlimited internet no stress for me. The only drawback is it doesnt give u access to tethering .

  17. We seriously have IDIOTS in Canada. They truly believe Wind + Mobilicity have something wrong with their unlimited DATA.

I have unlimited voice, text and DATA for $40 a month.

@Brayden Consumers like Bieber here are what is destroying competition from Wind + Mob, Limited area? It’s the samething with other companies, you have an AREA with unlimited, once you leave your AREA you get charged more, actually with Wind I can go to Calgary or Vancouver or another home zone and get the same deal, unlike videotron or the big 3, YOU CANT do this.

The whole 5GB limit is for those who tether 24/7 and they’ll only throttle you if you actually use it when others in the same area using the same tower. They basically never really throttled anyone, how sad you’re talking out of your a*s.

And with my Fab 10, I rarely have LD.

  18. 6gb/$30 is offered by the big3 all year round as a retentions add-on and offered every year at back to school.

Videotron is just playing catch up.

  19. Has anybody found out if the * means on a 3 year (data) term? Cause that’s been the caveat to Robellus’s promo on this deal when they offer it. If there is no term contract, then this is marginally better for those in Quebec.

And for those trying to compare Wind/Mobilicity to Videotron – you can only compare what’s available, really.

Wind/Mobilicity MIGHT have had the best plans in their service areas, but it means jack all to those in Quebec. ;p

  20. You are right, you can only compare what is available BUT that doesn’t mean that people should not be pushing to get companies like WIND and MoBl into Quebec. I live in Montreal and I am on an old Rogers plan with the 6gb Data. If you read VideoTrons add they say “for a limited time you can get affordable web browsing on our devices”. This just goes to show how out of touch they are. They are basically saying that their regular service is not affordable (which it isn’t). I really hope that services like WIND go nationwide (both nations lol) to finally show these Big3 people what normal prices are. PLUS, for those of your who complain that WINDs service is no good because of their coverage, I don;t think most people who live in cities leave all that often. I understand that some people do, but when I lived Toronto and I was with Fido (when it was still Fido) the few times I left the city I paid the extra fee, but it happened once in a blue moon.
