HTC UK noted on their Facebook page that Desire owners would never see an official upgrade to OS 2.3 Gingerbread due to a lack of memory. They said that they have “been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.”
It was all a bad dream yesterday, a late April Fool’s day joke, because today HTC has back peddled and said “Contrary to what we said earlier, we are going to bring Gingerbread to HTC Desire”. No word on what changed over the last 24-hours but Gingerbread will be made available to the Desire owners.
