TELUS launching the LG Optimus Black “Skype edition” this Summer

TELUS just announced they’ll be releasing a “Skype Edition” of the LG Optimus Black this Summer. The actual device has a 4-inch NOVA touchscreen, runs Android 2.2 Froyo but will be upgraded to 2.3 Gingerbread, 9.2 mm thin, 1500 mAh battery, 5 megapixel with flash and a 2 megapixel front facing camera and Wi-Fi.

Here’s where it gets interesting. TELUS and Skype have signed a deal that makes this the “first Skype-branded phone on the Canadian market” and comes pre-loaded with a Skype app where users can download the latest version of Skype Mobile (via the Android Market). The release stated that the TELUS LG Optimus Black will come with 60 minutes of Skype international calling credits. In addition, future Skype credits will be directly charged to your monthly bill. Reading over the TELUS site says that you’ll receive “Skype $2 credit” in the box.

No word on prices.
