Chatr axes 6-month promo… permanently reduces monthly rate plans

Rogers discount carrier Chatr Wireless launched late last year with a couple Unlimited plans and a few low cost devices. Almost immediately after their initial launch they reduced both the $35 and $45 monthly plans by $10 each. This was set to expire but it now seems like Chatr has made a point to lock in the discounted rates indefinitely. These discounted rates used to state on their site that it was available for only 6-months but today those limiting words have been replaced with a simple “Now”. Most likely the reason for the permanent drop is the Unlimited Talk and Text plans by WIND, Mobilicity and Public Mobile. We’re sure Solo Mobile will soon follow Chatr and match their price plans.

  5. Do existing customers get moved to the lower plans or stay at the original price-plan? I’m not getting any response from Chatr regarding this.

  11. I’m not a fan of the big 3, but the $25 price point looks good for the parents. Of course, then you look at the voicemail retrieval charge (25 cents a min) — are you kidding me? lol.

  13. chatrs networks is Rogers network but only 2G not the 3G network.

Rogers in VMP ( Virtual Mobile Provider ) for Chatr , Speakout , Petro canada , etc all on 2G Network .. dont expect data to work faster on Chatrs compared to 3G or 3.5 or socalled 4G network.

    • rookie it is a 3g network, my handset says 3g. That much is clear solid performance and no dropped calls. Data was something I was told a while back but who knows why they are waiting. It would ruin wind because the network is the key..

    • if your phone shows 3g… then it is not a 3g. True 3g should display “3G” not “3g” mahahahaha

  14. Rogers is an okay network. 2g voice quality is still
Poor. The static connected calls means you have to redial sometimes. Earpiece volume low although some handsets now compensate for that.

Rogers network in terms of voice quality or clarity in a full signal area is not even close to the call clarity available in Europe or Asia.

  16. I use chatr and call quality is great. I’ve had zero issues with it unlike my experiences with wind and mobilicity. Anyone who says Mobilicity and Wind are better than chatr are liars. If you don’t need data there is no reason to waste your money with them. Chatr is better value. $35 for unl talk and text with a larger zone on a proven network sounds like a better deal to me. And yes it is a 3G network.

  17. Read the “Full Details”:

A $10 bonus will be applied to customer’s balance once per month upon each successful credit card transaction, for the first six months of program enrollment.

It is the same deal as before.

    • Sorry, but you need to read the “full details”.

“A $10 bonus will be applied to customer’s balance once per month upon each successful credit card transaction, for the first six months of program enrollment.”

This “program” is for people who sign up for their auto-pay service, which requires a credit card. They will receive a $10 extra bonus every month for using auto-pay.
It has nothing to do with the $10 permanent decrease in price.

  18. Ohhh yeah! Cheaper prices for everyone. Chatr service is not much better than WIND as for coverage but it does expand a little further.

Other than that, if im out of the zone which i am often, i can send text messages at no extra cost! Other than the other new entrants that charge!

  22. Just reading through some of these posts, I am mystified on how little people actually know about phone providers. Go visit a chatr store to learn about pricing and network coverage. SMH

  23. Chatr way better than public mobile. No dropped calls and waaaay better service at least chatr has a reliable network. Wind and public don’t compare.
