Public Mobile announces data offerings and $15 Unlimited Talk plan

Public Mobile has announced a couple of new features to their Unlimited offerings. First, a $15/month Unlimited province-wide talk plan. This will be available starting on April 1st and will be a permanent plan. Public Mobile aims to rid people of their home phone and also those Prepaid cards. Public CEO Alek Krstajic stated that “At $15 a month, there is now a real alternative to prepaid cards. No more counting your minutes, topping up or standing in line to buy prepaid cards”.

Next and most importantly is a $5 Unlimited email. We’ve been saying data will be coming to Public Mobile for months and it’s almost now here. They will officially be launching their data services sometime in April with a QWERTY device called the “Buzz” along with this $5 Unlimited Email service add-on. Incredible price for data but there is no word on what the cost of this “Buzz” device will be or what it looks like.

So it seems for $40/month you can have Unlimited Talk, Text and Data with Public Mobile. In their release Public says this is ” just another way Public Mobile is changing the face of Canadian telecommunications.”

    • EVDO is 3.1 Mbps. Quick enough for some web browsing. Many people with a blackberry are still limited to 3.6 Mbps on HSDPA.

  2. Having unlimited email isn’t everything. You can only just check emails but can’t browse YouTube, Facebook, use navigation, etc unlike at Mobilicity where its just $10 unlimited data which gets you everything including no restrictions on tethering. Just an example I’m throwing out here.

    • Not everyone is a slave to Facebook, or watches Youtube videos on their phone.

  5. I think this is amazing, just got an $86 bill from one of the other guys because I used 12 minutes of long distance, called them and all they offered me was a more expensive plan.

  6. Even though their phone line up is squiffy, $15 a month for unlimited province wide calling is amazing.

That’s a landline alternative for sure. Even if you just have the phone sitting at home.

I don’t see how unlimited email qualifies as unlimited data. It’s indeed a very nice price, but what about simple browsing? or MMS? or A-GPS/maps service? that needs more than just unlimited email

    • No new entrant should create a plan without caller id. It doesn’t make sense.

  14. Where do I start? Signal is very weak inside home (Outremont) and apartment (NDG)I had to go out in the balcony or been glued to the window to get a signal. ZTE C70 piece of crap, no noise cancellation, you have to scream for the other people to be able to hear you. Changed phone and went with Kyocera G2GO, worst piece of crap, the reception was even weaker than the C70 and was a total pain using the keyboard that was made for children. Second does anybody knows what is the level of radiation that the crappy antenna in these phones emits?

  17. k first off PM has UNL DATA for $10/mth and 2nd UNL ontario wide calling for $15!!! are you kidding me that is by far the cheapest plan in north amaerica…nobody in the market has a plan close to this…so take PM for what they are…they advertise there not for everyone…if your ifan who wants to sign a 3 yr contract and pay $80+/mth for an $800 iphone then go for it…clearly thats not there market…they are simple and after ppl who want a change whether thats getting rid of there home phone or prepaid phone or even switching there contracted phones to PM and want simple cheap plans with no contracts and good decent phones to use in the mean time…If you dont get then your a tard.
