Image: Public Mobile’s first data device called the “BUZZ”

A pic was not available in the Public Mobile press release this morning but we reached out and was able to secure an image for you. Take a quick peek at the first data device by Public Mobile called the “BUZZ”. This looks like a BlackBerry smartphone as it has a full QWERTY keyboard, 4-way directional pad and what looks to be a 2.4-inch display. This will launch in April and pricing will be released at that time too.

  1. Nothing wrong with that.. I’d buy it, and I’m sure pricing will be around the $99 mark or under. I might be one of the few that like what Public is doing, and is rooting for this underdog.

  8. Looks like a blackberry. No wonder blackberry is losing market share. But on a positive note, consumers win! Cheaper phone with keyboard that’s not $600 and a cheaper data plan to boot.

  10. It’s got a few similarities here and there to the BlackBerrys, but all-in-all it looks a lot less like a BlackBerry as compared to those BlackBerry knock-offs from China.

  12. That’s definately NOT a BlackBerry. It looks more like a Motorola Q or Acer BeTouch… or something less familiar running Android.

    • No one said it was a Blackberry..it is a look-alike..just like most manufacturers copy someone elses design..think back to the Razr..everyone copied that slim flip design. I think it will do well. Good news for a lot of people that want a phone and email without getting prison raped by other carriers. Go underdogs!

  13. darknight2ca, where do you buy your phones, at Future Shop..omg, they are not even Canadian owned. Unless you own a blackberry, you have a phone that is from a foreign company. Where do you buy your household items, at Walmart? Omg, they are not even Canadian owned. Do you own a “Canadian” car? Why don’t you look around your house and count how many items that you own are from a Canadian owned company. This is no longer Canada versus the world. We live in a Global economy. Get used to the fact that you deal with international companies and stop bitching and complaining. You need to appreaciate the fact that we now how have better cell phone rates in this country.

    • GoWindGo.. do you even know the canadian laws on owning a mobile company in canada? no. i would have guess go look at it before. and did i say anything about buying s**t from them? no. read what i wrote i said i was going to give them a try but they were trying to oush the question aside.. what a stupid wind fan boy.

p.s the law is the company has to be majority canadian to stay in canada. (example rogers, bell, fido) now Stfu! and learn to read.

  16. GoWindGo, Reading comment from people like you on this website is very depressing. Everyday, you show your antipatriotic side by complaining about the true canadian companies employing our own people and encouraging foreign investors or businesses sending our jobs overseas. You guys need to stop complaining, work a little harder (if you even work), stop wining for a couple dollars per month. People that live in this country and do not even know the words to our national anthem make me sick

  17. OneOfTheOnlyRealCanadianOnThisWebsite, I know the national anthem in both french and english. I work and pay my taxes just like you do. Foreign companies do hire Canadians. Are you trying to tell me that the companies I mentioned above have NO Canadians working for them? You have no idea what you are talking about. McDonalds is a foreign company that employess more Canadians then most Canadian companies..same with Wendys and Walmart and the list goes on and on. All foreign companies that have business in Canada hire Canadians and pay taxes in Canada. They work no different then a Canadian company. Do you only cheer for Canadian sports teams? Do you only listen to Canadian music or Canadian movies? How about tv? Do you only watch CBC news and turn it off when new about other countries come on? Get out of your shell. I am very patriotic..more than you will ever be.

    • These foreign companies don’t hire canadians. What are you talking about? They ship people in from other countries to work here. It’s not illegal or anything, they just make sure they’re all sleeping under blankets when they pass through the border

    its a simple phone company
    trying to keep things simple
its target is people who want a simple phone that does what a phone is supposed to do.

  19. Im saying that when you have the opportunity to encourage our own economy (even if it means you have to spend a small premium in order to buy canadian, you should. I do not understand how you go from buying canadian to watching the new. Open a book and learn about the trickle down effect. If you want to send your money overseas and encourage clement in disregarding laws, thats your call. you’re probably cursing the rich for being hard working while you switch from brand to brand to save a couple penny. Anyways, i think you should just get in a time machine and immigrate to the ussr and fight capitalism.

  21. OneOfTheOnlyRealCanadianOnThisWebsite, you are the one that is fighting capitalism. I am all for it. I want more businesses in Canada but I want our companies to compete and if you can’t compete then why should I support you? You say that you want to support Canadian wirelss carriers but do you own a blackberry? If not then you should not even talk. Tell everyone here what Canadian products you own? You probably have none! Why don’t you go back to standing in line at the welfare office and let the rest of support you with our taxes.

I don’t curse the rich because I am in the highest tax bracket so I am considered part of the “rich”.

  22. gowindgo, hahaha my assistant is in the highest tax bracket and i dont consider her to be rich. You know what, i do have a bb i do avoid shopping, dinning, etc. in non canadian owned establishments when ever it is possible. I guess true canadians like will just have to work harder to compensate for parasites like you. Don’t bother formulating an poorly informed answer to this post, i wont be reading it.

  23. Look where capitalism has taken us to, a global depression. I challenge anyone to show me using empirical evidence that capitalism benefits the middle and lower classes.

If capitalism really existed than why are they bailing out the banks with tax dollars and cutting back on social services and blaming the unions? They should let them fail should we not after all they want capitalism right!

  25. if you want to kno about the new phone jus call customer service, they said it will be a ZTE smartphone that looks like a blackberry. Took about 3 reps to get the answer. They said its because there g band network doesn’t allow for other smartphones to operate unless they soley produce a phone for public mobile. With the ZTE model its cheaper for the network because they do not have to pay RIM or Android to build a model specific to the G band network.

  30. Better be careful of someone sending you a big text message, a buddy send me one today and my so called good phone by Public Mobile called the buzz crashed. that’s right…it crashed…not working , he forwarded me something from his Iphone and it came as broken down text messages over 90 of them, guess what Public mobile does not know how to fix the phone. And the retailer some guy that got a franchise from them won’t give me a replacement. all i see on the phone now is a little box on the screen that reads error, and it won’t charge, I smell trouble for this phone.

  32. I have the phone and I find it’s great for the price and the company has more to offer than any other company I’ve been with.I heard wind is not that great and I know lots of people who say they never get no reception with them.I get good reception with public mobile and I like their plans. The only thing they should get straight is there reminders of your next payment. They tell me I’m due on the 8th meanwhile I’m due on the 1st and their taunting me about my next payment everyday.I think I already know and don’t need to be reminded everyday I’m not a child lol.I’ve had a blackberry phone and it sucks this phone is better I find. You lose the ball on the blackberry your phone is done at least with this phone there is no scroll ball.
