TELUS investing $22 million into Manitoba, will bring 42 Mbps download speeds

Just days before MTS finally launches their long-awaited now-called “4G” network, TELUS has gone out and announced they will be investing $22 million in Manitoba this year with their own “4G” network. In a press release TELUS stated they’ll expand beyond the Winnipeg and into Brandon, Selkirk, Steinbach, Portage la Prairie and Victoria Beach.

“In 2011, TELUS will continue to deliver customers in Manitoba even better wireless broadband services on Canada’s fastest coast-to-coast 4G wireless network*. TELUS currently offers extremely fast manufacturer rated peak download speeds up to 21 megabits per second and recently announced a HSPA+ Dual Cell upgrade which offers speeds up to 42 megabits per second** in Winnipeg and many other urban centres.”

Those two asterisks above are fine print that says “**Speed may vary due to the device being used, network congestion, distance from the cell site, local conditions and other factors.”

      same old story:
      “WOW! 42 Mbps and data limit of 500MB!!!! Really????? At this speed, data limit will be reached within 95.238095 second….. lol…. another joke from big jokers…. Isn’t it same as selling a Lamborghini with monthly 50km mileage limit? How funny that sounds? You made my day 3 jokers…. rot in hell… and wake up people…”

    Watch out manitoba, big 3 are coming to scam u guys!

    Don’t hold your breath. My HSPA+ with Telus = 300kb/s.

    Would not go to Telus anyways, but still bugs me that MTS keeps quiet even at 8 days from launch. MTS had enough time to prepare a full blown opening, but it is more geared towards a soft launch. I have no idea how to run a telco, but as a customer wanting to stay loyal to MTS, it is hard to stay hyped over something they are keeping quiet about.

    I love this part “**SPEED MAY VARY DUE TO THE DEVICE BEING USED”.

    Well DUH!! if you are attempting to browse the web or use an app or anything that involves accessing the internet then obviously you are using the device!! I guess thats there way of saying “Hey we are saying we will get these speeds so we can suck you in to get more money out of ya but we don’t really mean it”.

    Who cares!

    If you are from Manitoba you will have heard this crap for the past 4 years.

    We are going to expand, you will have data outside the city limits, you will be able to text message outside the city limits. Next month…..Oh wait MTS doesnt like us so we have to push it back to next summer.

    Yeah you get the idea. Telus you scammed me to stay for years with this crap. No thanks I could care less what they “promise” when the network is up and running then I will believe until then thanks for the laugh.

    @Dev

    If you own a Lamborghini that can run at 300 km/h, doubt you’ll be able to reach that limit in the urban areas due to traffic congestion, traffic lights, 90 degrees street corners, etc..similar to how the internet traffic is routed.

    These examples of how many seconds to burn through the monthly data limits is getting tiring. If you have 15Mbps plan, do you honestly tell me that you’ll run at 15Mbps all day every day for 1 month?

    @RichieRich

    Sometimes stating the obvious is required to eliminate frivolous lawsuits from people that “assumes” they get the advertised speed, no matter what.
