Public Mobile has opened a couple more stores and turned their network on in the Burlington area. On the company blog they state that coverage is “in the East extending to the border with Hamilton (intersection of Highway 403 and Highway 6). Coverage is available from the lake north to Mainway (East of Guelph Line) and to Highway 403 (West of Guelph Line)”. So it now looks like they have full coverage stretching the edge of Pickering to Hamilton.

IDC Report:
The recent IDC report puts China’s ZTE as the world’s 4th largest handset maker for 2010, even surpassing Apple which was bumped down to 5th.
Nokia still leads the pack with 30.8% share of total shipments for the year ( with 123.7 million, though that’s still down by 2.4% from the previous year). It’s then followed by Samsung at 20.1% (80.7 million handsets) and LG Electronics at 7.6% (30.6 million).
ZTE came in at 4th with 16.8 million handsets (4.2% share) where it pushed down Apple to 5th with 4.0% share (16.2 million). ZTE makes handsets for 3rd parties like Verizon in the US.

That is great. They move faster than Mobilicity. What is taking them so long?

Stop the sarcasm, they are doing a great job targeting the urban poor i.e. taxi cab drivers and immigrant factory workers that need a new phone in their new homeland Canada but need to stay in touch with the old country. It’s the only new carrier with unlimited plans to China/India/Phillipines etc. and these people have no interest in the smartphones and facebook hype.

I am very surprised that Public has beaten Mobilicity to 3 key cities; Oakville, Hamilton and now Burlington. We need more competition in the ‘burbs, hopefully Mobilicity will pick up the slack soon.

Well done public and good luck with the law suit. The thing I like about public is that they don’t use hype and are not pretending to be a national carrier.

It is a good news, but now they should work on their plans. Wind Mobile: Unlimited Canada wide calling, Global texting, Unlimited data, Unlimited SMS for 45$.

they’re overpriced, they just hope to get customers who don’t know about wind or mobilicity. they prefer 10 dumb customers with high profit margin off them than 100 smart customers with lower profit margin. they’re predatory asses! they claim “lowest price for unlimited” because they offer a s**t plan for $24 instead of mobilicity who offers MUCH more for $25.

public’s network is financed by zte corp in china for 350 million dollars… how does that make them less owned by a foreign company than wind is?

Acer309, a bank loan is different from an equity financing, ZTE corp does not have any ownership of Public, just a loan like you with your car or home. I guess your comment is on reaction on the wind outcome, the difference is that at wind the ”Bank” is Orascom and Orascom as stake in Wind or Globalive for more than 70% of the co ($700M), if Tony would have gotten $700M from the national bank of egypt he would not be in default… and could operate as is.
