Public Mobile appoints Francois Duffar as Chairman… “provides a real voice for Quebec”

Public Mobile invested $53 million during the recent Spectrum auction and has the possibility of reaching 19 million customers that stretches from Ontario to Quebec. They are backed by a $50 million investment from OMERS and last June announced a huge $350 financing deal with ZTE Corporation and the Export-Import Bank of China to help them build out their network.

Today new-entrant Public Mobile has appointed Francois Duffar as Chairman of its Board of Directors. He was previously President of Cossette Group and helped them expand globally to reach revenues over $1 billion. In addition, Duffar was inducted into the Marketing Hall of Legends of Canada.

Alek Krstajic, CEO of Public Mobile stated “Monsieur Duffar has led an exceptional career in the communications industry in Canada and has a great knowledge of wireless customers in Canada. Francois has been an advisor to many corporate leaders around the world and I’m very fortunate to have him as my Chairman. Public Mobile is the only new entrant to offer service in both Quebec and Ontario, and François recognizes that each province has a distinct identity. His expertise provides a real voice for Quebec.”

  2. So Public Mobile is giving up on Ontario since they can’t compete with WIND and Mobilcicity.

For anyone taking notes, for a company that prides itself for being Canadian, they sure take a lot of money from Chinese companies. Not saying there’s anything wrong with that, but I don’t think everyone is aware that all 3 new companies have 2/3 of their monies form foreigners.

  3. Jon and chall, two wind trolls that have anger management issues with everyone except wind.

You two door knobs still spreading lies about the new entrants. The CRTC and the federal court judge and most Canadians know different and wind is the only one that is in trouble. If you have some proof show it but I am sure that since you make things up you will not.

  4. Jon, i think where you are misled, is that it is not againts the law to get money from foreign banks or investors, it is to get money (debt) and give control/ownership to foreign co’s. Anyone can go and get 500 Milions to a bank anywhere in the world. everyone on MS seems not to understand the foreign rules in the telecommunication act and post comments that shows their ignorance about the topic

  5. Now that is CORRECT!Agree 100%…it also makes it worse when the predator investor totally controls the company at 65%-75% and the CEO is only a PUPPET…ask yourself why Tony The Gigolo needed to go to Orascom for funding. No one else wanted him…so he went to a PREDATOR and both he and the government knew what they were doing.CAN YOU SAY INVALID GIRLS!

    • If you knew how to punctuate and form a sentence then it would never have been an issue, would it?

    • No time for periods, commas, apostrophies, colons, semi-colons, hyphens, question marks, or any other form of punctuation shows that you’re probably as lazy in life as you are in grammar. That’s why it matters.

Deflecting by accusing others of illiteracy when it’s plainly clear you’ve barely mastered the English language past a grade 5 level yourself, just makes you a point of amusement.

      Thanks for the laughs!

  10. Guys, the G band spectrum is not useless it has proven its use where wind paid about 440 million and mobilicity paid 225 million public paid 54 million isnt that useful in itself. take note public has the most cash on hand of the new entrants and has more subscrider growth then wind. Wind is in a bad way financially now whereas public is in a great position. Public has both Roaming and Data coming and that will put them on par with wind. Public will be more successful then wind and I bet wind gets aquired before Public. Also if you look at the coverage maps and tower counts Public has obviously put more money into their ontario network. Public is in the best financial and market leverage position. All we ever hear about is how wind’d network is terrible and the service for wind home is worse then wind away, lastly mobilicity is insolvent and will be aquired by some company or other this year. If not for the givernment breaking CRTC law wind wouldent even exist. Lastly public mobile is the only canadian cell phone carrier that is 100% owned and operated, even roger telus and beel are more foreign owned as they are public companies and have shareholders all over the world. Eat that wind and mobilicity 100% canadian can anyone else say that?

    • Scott, I have no idea where you get your financial information from but it’s vague at best. To say something is true a billion times without any substance doesn’t make it any truer. What are you trying to say? As Public is not a, ahem, public company, we have no idea what their financial status is. So they got spectrum for cheap but the return on their money is not as profitable either.

First of all, I don’t wish any ill will toward Public, nor do I toward Mobilicity or Wind. I’m going to ignore the claims of poor signals and service as quite frankly, everyone I know who’s on any of the new entrants is more than happy, it’s just a few fanboys who feel the need to bash anything that doesn’t conform to their narrow view of what a carrier should be. I’ve been with one of the new entrants for a year, have yet to have a single dropped call or have poor service and I’m not the only one.

As to subs, I have no idea where you’re getting your numbers from for those either. At the end of Q4 ’10 Public was estimated to have 59,000 subscribers, Mobilicity 94,000 and Wind 250,000. So where is it that Public is winning the sub race? I’m sorry Scott but I don’t get what you’re trying to say.

Public will succeed, or at least I hope it will, but it’s own growth will be, and has been, stifled by its own business plan and use of G spectrum. This not only limits a larger party looking to invest but also drastically limits the choice in handsets. They operate in a market that was over looked by Mobi and Wind and as such I hope they do have a good go of it, but a dominant player in Canadian telcoms? I highly doubt that.

  12. Scotts a moron, Public Mobile are such hypocrites, just now they cry at WIND for having Orascom help out, yet these i****s not only have ZTE financing them, but also Chinese banks. Let’s not forget their spectrum IS garbage. It’s CDMA, and no one likes it. Another thing is that this company needs to burn and die because their plans suck and so does their management. They have the smallest network with bunch loads of holes and no good phones. Some company, they’re just dead weight.

  14. agreed with amar. they’re overpriced, they just hope to get customers who don’t know about wind or mobilicity. they prefer 10 dumb customers with high profit margin off them than 100 smart customers with lower profit margin. they’re predatory asses! they claim “lowest price for unlimited” because they offer a s**t plan for $24 instead of mobilicity who offers MUCH more for $25.
