We got this OtterBox iPhone 4 Defender Series Case for review and just like all the other OtterBox cases they are well thought out. Access to the buttons/ports are all there and comfortable – but the case will add an extra 60 grams of weight. The good thing about this case is that it can protect you from almost anything – drops, bumps, and shock (not water). In typical OtterBox style the case is made up of 3 materials that protect your beloved device: Clear protective membrane on touch screen, a polycarbonate shell and silicone skin.
To test this out I grabbed my iPhone 4 and chucked it several times down my street. Actually it was 3 times and it went about 15 feet in the air and about 15 feet in distance. So way beyond than the normal day-to-day bump or drop. Check out the video after the break
You can purchase the OtterBox iPhone 4 Defender Series Case here ($50)

Your tests are the best I see around, no soft treatment stuff and I appreciate that a lot.
You still sound like Super Dave from years ago though to me.

I have defender case for my Desire. Few weeks back my buddy accidentally dumped a pint of beer on it. Kept the phone dry.
Perhaps he needs to chuck that Iphone without the case just to make sure it isn’t the phone holding the case together.

My only beef with this case for my phone is the cover for the camera lense gets super dusty and I have to clean it often to get a clear picture.

I’m sure glad Apple didn’t spend millions to make their phone aesthetically pleasing and pocketable. Yikes.

LOL I would never do this with my factory unlocked 32Gb iPhone 4 even if I would have the best case ever.

I’ve used an otterbox on my iPhone 3g for two years and it has held up very well. Continuous bumps against it in my pocket at an assembly job and rugged protection on the farm. The port covers are slowly breaking off now, and repeated removal of the rubber bumper has stretched it a bit, but the only thing I don’t care for is the decreased touch sensitivity through the screen protector. The phone itself still looks barely used though.

Impressive! I always thought that iphones were delicate needed to be treated gently! Apparently not, in an otter box!

I’m sure the premium price to compensate Apple for the iPhone’s case design was well spent, now that you’ve got it sitting locked up in a polycarbonate brick… I never understand those Apple users.

Good extension, just remember, you want to flick your wrist at the end to get a good snap. Gives it a little extra oomph. Perhaps b/c you are throwing lefty you should work on your breaking-ball.
Best test of a case I’ve seen so far

I sold this case to someone with their iPhone 4. It smashed. He said he dropped it 3 feet. I don’t believe him after this.
Thanks, I don’t feel so bad.

Would you try the same test with the Otterbox Commuter?

Nice test… Personally, I would have had the phone recording a video during the toss though.

Good video! Painful to watch the iPhone got thrown around but really helpful for those who want a realistic review on the OtterBox.
