Confirmed: “TELUS will be offering the BlackBerry Style”

With United States carrier Sprint announcing they will offer the BlackBerry Style 9670 on October 31st ($99.99 on a 2 year contract after mail-in rebate)… we just received an e-mail from TELUS stating that “Today Sprint announced that they will offer the BlackBerry Style 9670. I wanted to reach out to confirm that TELUS will be offering the BlackBerry Style here in Canada. Pricing and availability information still to come.”

This confirms they will be releasing it soon. A previous tip that we received has this new flip BlackBerry available the first week of November.

More Soon!

why is RIM still making cdma phones?!? and phones ad ugly as this POS!

    • zorxd

Maybe because there are big networks in the US, Japan and elswhere still using this technology?

    Style… Or lack thereof.

Seriously, that phone is butt ugly. RIM needs to get a new design team and a new software team.

  • JSKershaw

Sprint requested this type of phone and it’s form factor for their network. RIM made it to Sprints specs. Why would RIM refuse to make a phone for a carrier if the carrier paid them big bucks?

I agree that it’s ugly, but I’m sure there’s a market for this phone. I can also see this being a phone for teens.

Here’s what I think of it:

    :( ~~~~~~~~~~~

UGLY!, that phone is UGLY! Seriously, was there no better way to put a BB phone into a clamshell design, smoother lines with not such a big round shell. Couldn’t they have made the original Flips a little bigger to accomadate the full keyboard? Those were not bad, defiantely not as ugly as this….

  • Bubzilla

I still think its going to be added to shut up the people who complain to Telus that they don’t have a Blackberry for prepaid. Other than that I dont see a point to it, its a step back not forward

Not every phone has to be a 4″ touch screen slate.

There are loads of people that will get excited about this. It’s a durable phone which has all of the advantages of a smartphone. It will be a huge step up for people from feature phones who just casually text and email, and should not cost much more.

RIM is interested in two market segments right now:
    1) Mid-range consumer phones
    2) Corporate business phones

Neither of which is going to please anyone on a tech website I guess.

How do you know it is going to be durable? Users of BB’s use the device like an IM device. Unless it can lay flat like a normal blackberry and not teeter at all this will be an annoying device to have. I mean if, in order for it to sit flat you have to close it that would be a major annoyance and really test the “durability” of the hinge.

If I had to flip open my BB everytime I got a BBM, email or text because it doesn’t lie flat, I’d go crazy. And then I’d go postal when the hinge breaks from wear and tear.

Plus it’s ugly and looks like a makeup thing.

Blackberry’s in general, particularly the curve and perl line, are very durable.

Clamshell phones are widely considered to be far more durable in general.

The screen isn’t exposed, which protects the most important external component.

I concede that it not lying flat may be a minor issue, but whenever I text on my bold 9000 I usually pick it up anyway. It’s too cumbersome and slow typing with it on a desk.

  • Nomez

I don’d think that picture does justice to the phone. But I believe it is going after a key demographic and may be successful.

  • wtv

Guys, this picture isn’t the actual phone, it was a mock-up. The actual phone has a bold keyboard and is less ugly.

  • Tom Brady

I’m surprised no one said it, but it should be called the Blackberry Outastyle.

    • Adi

      LOL good one !

      Adi

  • aj

:/ ……. THAT! is the ugliest phone…EVER! first of all… how would u text on that unless u have fingers as small as a babys

  • ggh

TELUS here is the Froio? Google is already working on the version 4.0 for Android and you are still thinking about the 2.2 for your users. Common.

  • A. Carmine

The Pearl Flips fat cousin…. that’s right RIM, keep rolling’em out. Research in Motion indeed!

  • chelsea

I think the purple style is hott !! i would buy one !! it is sort of like the pearl flip but has more room !

  • Mel

I’m looking for one of these if anyone has one for Telus and is looking to sell it, thanks.

  • mike
