The 3-year contract price for the upcoming Rogers Samsung Galaxy S Captivate is standard at $149.99. There’s no doubt that this Android 2.1 device will be a wanted one and will officially be available within a couple weeks. Specs of the Captivate have it coming with a 4-inch Super AMOLED display (480 x 800 resolution), 5 megapixel camera that records 720p HD videos, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth,3.5 mm audio jack and holds up to 32GB with a microSD card. If these specs don’t convince you and despise signing a contract… Rogers is coming to the table with a reasonable no-contract price of $549.99.

more expensive than Bell’s Vibrant? I’d rather choose a front-facing camera than a gyroscope.

i might pay 50 more for the captivate just because it does not look like a iphone ripoff….

I don’t believe any of Samsung’s galaxy devices have a Gyro sadly…
THey state they have a 6 axis system which makes it sound equivalent but it depends how it’s implemented ’cause accelerometers are NOT the same as gyros…
Only the iphone4 seems to have a dedicated gyro… Mind you it’s only useful for a few specifically coded games and the layar Augmented Reality browser to smooth out orientation changes.
It’s like the FFC I in that sense, I’d love to have them for the future but it looks impossible without waiting for more recent phones…
Can’t have it all apparently… But at 550$ I think I’ll wait just a bit more… Especially considering that damn thing doesn’t even have FM!!! Come on! Do they really think that will compete with their music sales!?!
My 2 cents,

How does the fact that there is no front -facing camera come as a surprise to you? This phone has been out in the states for a while now.

Might seem like an odd question to pose here but here it goes anyways. I have an iPhone 4 and love it for the most part. However my dad is looking at either iPhone or the captivate and has no preference so I was thinking of maybe switching to the captivate if he wants an iPhone. I’d just give him my phone. Anybody have any suggestions? Mainly I just can’t stand apples annoying notification system. But thanks to Rogers slow a*s I didn’t have a chance to compare before I had to buy.
Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

The galaxy is pretty similar to the iPhone in most ways.
You would get a flash browser with 2.2 though.
Sidenote: Does anyone actually use front facing camera’s? I fail to see the hyper around them.

If you get the Captivate, you will never look back. I had the iphone 4 and sold it as soon as i saw my friends Vibrant. Iphone brought nothing new to the table since its launch back in 2007. The UI is still the same. Most of the major complains that customers had were never addressed. Android is a whole different beast. The Captivate is the exact same thing as the Vibrant, minus the front facing camera and the lack of FM radio (who cares really), but it makes up for it with its sexy design.

The front camera is very useful as a mirror!

Stick to the iPhone. It’s a well rounded machine and it will be supported for at least 2 more years.

Whatever the Captivate has, the Vibrant also has. But in addition, the Vibrant also has a front face camera.

Seriously – all you people complaining about the lack of front facing camera… WHO CARES? It’s a gimmick, the rest of the civilized world has had video chat on cell phones for years now, and nobody uses it.

Front facing camera is a waste for the most part. Its been on many phones for over 3 years, but no one uses them much. If I wanted to see your face, Id come see you. There is a reason I only want to talk to you….
