Video of the BlackBerry Torch 9800 Canadian Launch Party!

Tonight is the official Canadian launch party for the BlackBerry Torch 9800. It’s looking like it’ll be an interesting night with the Torch on display for demos and apparently we’ll be able to “Watch , listen and groove as the DJ plays tunes from Two BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphones”. We’ll update with pics throughout the night.

While you’re there, confirm a release date for us!

For some random reason, I really want a Blackberry Torch. I wish Blackberry would begin to think of themselves as a small company. Downsize their home, and their offerings. Revamp everything, and clean house. I’d love that :)

  • gRIM

    turn out looks sparse

  • Gary

Looks like a fun party, but I wish RIM came out with a real smartphone to compete with the big guns.

    • Nadeem Khan

Absolutely! I think the torch is an amazing phone on the outside but I feel like RIM held back a little with the inside, at least a 1GHz processor, a substantial GPU to support the graphic heavy OS6. I have an iPhone 4 and a Bold 9700 and I would’ve turned them both in for a 9800 and the new iPod touch but with the lacklustre inside of the 9800, I’m not too sure anymore. But being Canadian, I love BB and support it all the way!

what are you using to take pics? an iphone? lol

    • Justin Michitsch

      Haha good question

  • Zeake

Does chatr support picture messaging? Anyone know?

  • Tito71

tomorrow the party is in Montreal (my town), how do you get an invit ?

  • Dom

The Torch is a disaster in my opinion. Why would you want something boasting specs that are almost 18 months old? RIM better smarten up and look at what their competition is doing or they’re going to continue to lose market share to both iOS and Android.

    • Adi

You’re not the only one asking this question. I think anyone even considering buying a current model BB is either stuck with a BES server at work, or is addicted to the BBM crack.

Any one else notice the painting of the white one? Maybe Rogers will do like the bolds and carry the torch in white.

and why are people getting so up in arms about specs? Its a blackberry, while i’m sure it would benefit from the added power, it don’t need it. It’s not like the software is super demanding.

    • Alex D

I’m with you CJ… Blackberry does well with less powerful processors than other companies use.
They seem to be able to harness the power better…I am planning on getting one as my work line…
How is St. John’s by the way hahaha

    • Clint

Rogers hasn’t officially announced it but they’ve carried white exclusives from RIM all the way along. The White and Black/Red models AT&T has said (or rumored at the least) it will carry in November.

  • Stupid

They screwed up with the screen and the cpu. There’s no way around this.

BB OS may be lighter on the cpu than some others but the fact is that this phone with this operating system requires more cpu power than they gave it.
The way the operating system lags and the browsing experience lags is just not acceptable for any phone today, let alone for $199 on a 3 year.

I for some reason prefer blackberry over iPhone, though I still didn’t tried iPhone myself, lol. Well, maybe I’m wrong, who knows.
