Sony Ericsson posted on Twitter a couple days ago that they’re targeting to release the anticipated upgrade for the Xperia X10 to OS 2.1 in the Q4 time frame (so between October to December). A video has popped up from the IFA tech show in Berlin that shows the X10 running 2.1, a bit blurry but shows the live wallpapers in action. Progress is good… check it out after the break.

Too little, too late Sony.
You dropped the ball on the Xperia X10.

I have an Android phone (Samsung). When I bought it, I thought I would get none-stop system updates, since Google is releasing new versions every few months. I learned the hard way that if you buy an Android (except for Nexus One that is the development platform), you can expect for one system update at the most. The Android manufacturers release new models every few months, and then completely drop the support for existing models.

I wouldn’t even care about the manufacturers updates at all if it weren’t for the locked down bootloader preventing custom ROM installation.

Ya, although I would rather have an android phone. I would take an iPhone4 over the x10, android devices never get updated and are s**t unless cracked.

yes an OS update would be nice, but the android OS can do so much more than a closed apple system – that I do not think OS update frequency should be the way you make these decisions. For instance I use swype gesture based text keyboard for free on my android – it won the world record for fastest texting. You can’t even get it on an Apple product (not there keyboard). This better apps, more open universe – goes on and on with android versus apple. And yes I have both devices so I feel I know.
