WIND comes out with the “It’s Up to You Contest”, specifically for Alberta
WIND Mobile is showing the love to those in Alberta by throwing together a stellar contest called “It’s Up to You”. It’s pretty easy to enter… all you have to do is visit a Wind Mobile store in either Calgary or Edmonton and pick up the entry card where you’ll be directed to a dedicated website to enter your contact info.
Reading over the terms and conditions it states that up for grabs is a cool $5,000 for each city ($5,000 for Calgary and $5,000 for Edmonton) for you to do whatever you want with, or as Wind says “what you do with all that cash is up to you”. If you don’t win the Grand prize there are 50 secondary prizes (25 in Calgary and 25 in Edmonton) of the HTC Maple with one free month of service on the Always Shout plan. The contest ends September 30th, 2010.

The few haters on this site are very tiresome with their backwater bigotry and banal vitriol and do not in any sway those that have a positive experience with WIND. Comical more than convincing at this point don’t most of you think? My BB phone with WIND works just fine thank you very much. Plus I sleep very well at night supporting a CANADIAN company. Arguments to the contrary are legally unsubstantiated and seem eerily creepy. No one should rationally hate THAT much. But some do. Good luck with that!

Well said Baron, I have the Bold myself and I havent had a single issue with either the service nor the phone. The coverage isnt perfect yet here but its much better than it was even a few months ago.

I would like to see the proof of the corruption of the owners from Wind. Real proof that they have managed to somehow defy laws in the all the countries where they have setup shop? Are they corrupted because they are foreigners, or more so Egyptian or maybe because the guy might be of a certain faith that really has been bashed since 9/11?
This whole support the Canadian companies “blindly” attitude over any competition no matter how much they are bending us over with their ridiculous rate plans and 3 year contract subsidies has got to go.
It is the same type of thinking that has Canada fighting in an illegal war with Afghanistan because George Bush (the Monkey) said so “let’s kill us some A-rabs and blame Al-CIAeda” (even though Afghans are not ethnically Arabs). You won’t have my “blind” support for spilling other peoples blood regardless of where you are from and where you are doing that!
Nor will you have my blind support for Mobilie / TV / Cable or any corporation just because they are Canadian. Truthfully where do you think that most of the equipment any of these companies buy and implement is manufactured, no its definitely not Canada!
My point is a number of the comments posted on this board in regards to the apparent corruption of the owners of Wind seem to focus heavily on the fact that he his Egyptian.
I guess anyone who isn’t a Canadian, or westerner must be corrupt?
I’d really suggest that a lot of people that speak of doing research dive further into facts and look past the corporate media version of what is going on in this world, whether it is mobile phone providers, taxation and finances or world affairs.

Afghanistan is not perfect, nor does anyone claim this. The people of Afghanistan needed to resolve their own issues. They did not require the intervention of Westerners whos REAL reason for invasion was to solidify their fortification in the middle east as a power base to launch attacks on other countries (ie Iraq, Syria, Iran, Lebanon etc, and believe me this will come in the near future), support Israel, and thumb their noses in the Russians face while exploiting the natural resources of the region. Let’s not forget about the pipleline they want to build through there. The Afghans do not want any foreign presence in their country, despite whatever puppets and publicity stunts they show on the TV.
The fact of the matter is, they have invaded a country in Afghanistan that they will never conquer or fully control. Yup the majority of the guns, RPG’s ammunition etc that the Taliban are using, are left over from the supplies that the Americans sent to the same people we now call “Taliban” that were then known as the “Heroic Mujahideen” that were working with the CIA at the time.
To further, I have relatives through marriage who are of Afghan decent. Therefore I have family there albeit distant, but I still know what is going on on the ground! My parents own home land was also nearly destroyed in the 90′s by a war that that the Westeners turned their back on because there was no oil to be found.

After using Wind for over three months I finally canceled,even though I was on a promotion that saved me money and bought a great phone at Pacific Mall the service was extremely bad.I’ll never go back after being lied to and treated so poorly.Every day I had tons of dropped calls,interrupted reception all over Toronto with no improvements and customer service never assisted me once to my satisfaction.This company is no match for Rogers,Bell or Telus,and regardless what they offer or promise in the future I am happy being with Chatr now and hope that in time they will offer some form of data.After seeing the owner of Orascom speak who is a shyster I decided to start supporting our Canadian providers again and almost all my friends are doing the exact same thing.

The choices are simple in this issue!
You can either support any 3 of our Canadian Providers who have a clean history that built our infrastructure for decades regardless what some idiotic FANBOYS claim against them with absolutely no proof whatsoever including Mobilicity/PM (even though they are not great companies)…or Orascom who unfortunately runs/owns Wind-Canada that have a long/detailed/proven history of corruption throughout the world which is how they made their billions and technically have contributed very little to the mobile industry considering their behavior/performance.
Of course,if you’re unhappy with the higher rates you can always fight against that and force the government to act…however supporting pathetic companies like Orascom/Wind will serve no purpose for our future and you should make your own decision with some integrity.

WASHINGTON, Nov 13 — Under pressure to rebuild the war-torn country, Iraq’s Coalition Provisional Authority has been quickly issuing fat business contracts. Now NBC News has learned that one man who allegedly did business with Saddam Hussein may benefit from one of the richest new reconstruction contracts.
In Baghdad these days, Iraqis have to line up to pay to use some of the few working phones in the city, or to rent satellite phones on the curb. For years, the line’s been dead for most Iraqis, and since the war began, things haven’t gotten much better.
So for months there was fierce competition among international corporations to win the U.S. government’s approval to operate mobile phone networks in Iraq.
Last month, Paul Bremer’s Coalition Provisional Authority and the Iraqi Ministry of Communications announced three winners.
Cell phone service for central Iraq, including Baghdad, was awarded to a consortium headed by Orascom Telecom, a huge company based in Egypt.
Alaa Al Khawaja, a prominent businessman and a board member of Orascom, also became a partner in the consortium. He tells NBC News it should be a tremendously lucrative venture. “I wish,” he said, “that it will be great profits for us.”
One of the investors in Orascom Telecom, is a controversial Iraqi-born billionaire, Nadhmi Auchi, who allegedly made money doing business with Saddam.

An Auchi spokesman tells NBC News the billionaire’s company owns 6.5 million shares in Orascom, which amounts to about 6 percent of the company.
That investment upsets Jonathan Spalter, an American businessman who lost in the bidding: “If these allegations are true,” he says, referring to the investment and to accusations against Auchi, “it certainly raises real questions, about whether the Coalition Provisional Authority did enough background research.”
A coalition spokesman said he could not talk about the deliberations that led to the award, but U.S. officials who issued the contract must not have checked with U.S. intelligence. A senior U.S. official tells NBC that Nadhmi Auchi “plays all sides of the fence in Iraq … and was in business dealings with the former regime, including Saddam.”
In France, earlier this week, Auchi was convicted in a kickback scandal, as part of the massive case involving the giant Elf oil company corruption case. He received a 15-month suspended sentence.
His spokesman says Auchi is innocent and will appeal. The spokesman tells NBC that some of Auchi’s firms did do business with Iraq until 1990 — as did many Western companies — and are still owed money.
Paul Light, of the Washington-based Brookings Institution, says this may raise questions. “The problem in this particular contract may be that it was done very well but it has an unintended consequence where somebody has benefited who we would not wish to benefit.” U.S. officials involved in awarding these contracts won’t say if anyone knew Auchi’s company was an investor in Orascom.
However, a spokesman says officials are not concerned about minor shareholders in a publicly held company.
