Wind Mobile creates an “Exclusive Student Offer”

Wind Mobile has a number of promos happening right now – everything from a porting credit, device rebates and plan discounts. If you’re a student it’s going to get even better as they’ve created an “Exclusive Student Offer”. Thanks to a tipster for letting us know that Wind is coming out with a couple Student plans (that are also compatible with the current hardware rebate offer). They are as follows and you must sign up before September 30th:

- Up to a year of “Always Shout” for only $25/month (Usually for $45 per month), or
- Up to a year of “Infinite Laptop” for only $25/month (Usually for $45 per month)

As this is an “Exclusive Student Offer” the deal won’t be available online or through customer care…  you’ll see Wind employees at select campuses across Canada this month. They will either selling directly on campus or asking students to visit the local store. As always there are a few guidelines: purchases must be made in person and students must present their valid student ID.

You like?

UPDATE: It’s official… Wind has now put this offer on their site, you can check it out here

    • Terry this is not good news.. they need subs but they also need the money.. what good is a student plan when they have little coverage in the schools? besides nothing stops anyone on the street to get the plan. I can walk in and say I want the plan for my kids, all 5 of them.. and they will gladly sign me up.. oh whats that you say they need id? I am afraid they did not ask to see anything.. my point is they need to get the money flowing.. uncle swarie is not going to keep feeding them money he is running short now..

  3. I am glad they got away from the ’5 invites for each employee’ on their first Friends and Family Offer. It was disgusting seeing their own employees selling these invites wherever they could.

  16. @WirelessBoy: The difference is the big three are charging at least $40 for student plans, where as Wind is offering their best plan for only $25 to students. Innovative? Not really. A great deal that totally outdoes the competition? Sure.

    • I guess to each their own then. I looked over the 3 plans myself and they are definately offering more, the “My5″, or Fave10 or whatever they call it can be a big draw. I don’t see how this outdoes the competition when the competition has way more coverage available to them, their Data and Text works in more areas.

I am not going to argue that this is not a good deal, it sure is but outdoing the competition? Even the $30 plan from Rogers has Unlimited Text/Video/Picture/E-Mail/IM Messaging anywhere in Canada that they have coverage and your choice of My5 or Rogers to Rogers calling or Unlimited Social Networking and Browsing etc.

  17. No it’s not innovative, but it’s the first student plan to actually be a deal and no another rip off in sheeps clothing.

  21. @WirelessBoy: The Rogers student plan is only local calling as far as I’m aware (even to My 5), while Wind has nationwide unlimited talk from any Wind Zone to any number. For talk, Wind clearly has the advantage. Chances are you won’t be calling anyone while outside of your local calling zone with Rogers, so the coverage doesn’t make a huge difference there.

But for texting, I can see why the limited coverage would be irritating. I like to text when I’m away from home, so I haven’t switched to Wind yet.

    • The My5 is Nationwide calling, Rogers to Rogers is local. The only advantage I really see is that Wind’s “Local Calling Area” is bigger but that can be overcome with the MY5 with Rogers or the Fave10 with Bell or Telus.

For a student who lives within the Home Zone and doesn
t leave the Home Zone then the Wind offer is good.

  26. I didn’t say this deal is a rip off. Far from it, it’s an amazing deal.
I’m saying the student plans offered by the big three are a rip off and are no better than their regular plans, other then being slightly cheaper/better but only being obtainable by signing a contract. Something you never have to do with Wind…Not every program is three years.

  27. @wirelessboy, except unlike you, some people might actually have more than 5 friends that they talk to while they travel? so unlimited canada-wide calling is actually way better than just nationwide my5.. not to mention, wind doesn’t charge the fictitious System Access Fee or Government Regulatory Fee a.k.a. the Robber’s fee..

  28. do NOT like. wind is corrupt and secondly, only availble to students, that sucks, what about people who can’t afford school! I always hate promos that are “good for first year” like free calling for a 3 months, I never care about, just tell me the real deal of what I’m paying, no gimmicks please, if I want that i’d go “the big three”.

what ever happened to equality for all wind mobile talked about, their commercials are A LIE!!!

“FOR SPEAKING OUT AGAINST BEING SCAMMED….HE FOUGHT FOR FREEDOM, EQAULITY, EQUALITY FOR ALL…” (quoted from wind mobile commercial). only for students doesn’t sound liek equality for all to me.

a testemnt to the truth that wind is a big fat marketing lie.

    • Bahahaha…whoever said at the beginning that someone would b***h and moan about it being available to students only was right.

Can’t afford school? Then how about you get a job or study hard for scholarships like the rest of us, instead of being a whiny loser on MobileSyrup.

Luke, I can’t wait to see your reaction to a seniors’ discount from WIND.

  29. The $30 Rogers student voice plan for students only gives the option of Local My5. It’s the BB/Smartphone ones that give the option of Canada-wide My5.

  31. @ Delluser: I also called in to confirm and had the same experience. The rep had no idea this promo existed, and she even put me on hold to ask her team. It is possible that the entire Wind team hasn’t been informed yet, but equally likely that MobileSyrup has got this one wrong.

  32. @ j**g Orascom has loads of $$$ it’s quite normal to sink a lot of money a business before it turns a profit.

@ Luke students are usually on a tight budget but at least it’s an actual discount instead of a wolf in Sherpa clothing from the big 3. Like Terry so rightly says.

    Excellent…that post was right on!

    @Wind User:

I guess you didn’t read one of my earlier posts in another thread,Orascom’s assets may seem great on paper and and you may be right in general terms…however their corruption has cost the millions (possibly billions) in reality and why they are trying to sell of their assets to focus on other ventures.A lot of their shareholders actually are fed-up with Swasiman’s style and want him out.Orascom’s association with Dictators, tax fraud, criminal dealings while selling certain interests, etc.,has destroyed their reputations and the only reason Wind-Canada sought this predator because they couldn’t find any decent NA funding…don’t believe the opportunists or teen programed robots on that site.

  37. potent thanks for your comment, let me feel free to explain.

I am nto against student plans, but t least don’t pretend to be about “equality for all” feel free to check out their commercial on youtueb to see the words they say.

Also where is their money coming from? ”
Given the onslaught of recent media articles highlighting the flaws of corrupt Egyptian telecom tycoon Naguib Sawiris , it is not surprising to learn that Naguib Sawiris uses bribes to secure lucrative business deals. ”

But instead of giving the 20 percent promised to the President’s daughter, Rami Antaki withheld the funds and started engaging in speculation with Orascom’s shares, using the opportunity to manipulate the stock price of Orascom using insider information, and make quick money. Things turned sour in 2006, when Orascom’s share price dropped considerably, and the money Rami Antaki owed Joujou was long overdue. In July 2006, the Congolese President stepped in and told Rami Antaki to pay his daughter immediately.

Rami Antaki quickly organized the transfer of money (on behalf of his brother Christian Antaki), wiring 20 percent of the sale proceeds to Joujou in mid-2006. The bribe was complete.”

This is only one example, think people THE HIGH COST OF LOW PRICE!!!
