InPulse SmartWatch for BlackBerry now testing battery life

The last time we heard from Waterloo-based Allerta, the makers of the upcoming inPulse BlackBerry SmartWatch, they stated their product “is almost here” and that it’s in final states of assembly and testing. They recently gave an update as to what they’re up to and taking a look at these images it shows them testing the battery life on the watches… usually a good sign that these will be out the door soon.

The “inPulse Smartwatch” connects wirelessly to your BlackBerry by Bluetooth and alerts you of any incoming messages. Specs have this with a 1.3-inch OLED display, Bluetooth v2.0+EDR, 150 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery, micro-USB port (for charging). Overall dimensions are 51mm x 38mm x 12mm and battery life is expected to last about 4 days. Allerta says this supports BlackBerry smartphone with OS 4.3 and above, no word on if this supports the new BlackBerry 6 OS.

  1. So, basically it’s a watch that tells you an email or msg came in? And displays a preview or full message on it’s 1.3″ screen? I’m having a hard time finding a practical use for this… Doesn’t it do everything your blackberry should do?

Where would you be that is within bluetooth range, that you WOULDN”T take your blackberry requiring you to have a watch?

    • What if you are in a meeting and don’t want to look rude by pulling out your device and scrolling through. A simple “time-check” is much more stealthy.

    • Yeah, because it wouldn’t look rude to be looking at your watch during a meeting.

I dunno….maybe at an executive meeting in a board room. Doesn’t look as bad to me if you glance at your watch during a meeting as whip out your Blackberry…

  4. I find this useful, let say you are in a meeting. Instead of having your phone ringing you have a small vibration on your watch. Then you take a look and reject the call without anyone noticing it. If it is an important call you can leave the room and answer. Perhaps for email I think this is more a gadget than a very good feature since in my case it would vibrate every 5 minutes !! that would be annoying !

  5. I’d imagine glancing at your watch, would have the exact same if not, worse implications than glancing at your BB… or as most people would do, put it on vibrate in your pocket. You know something is coming through, you don’t have to take out your device or glance at your watch.

  6. Nothing worse then when your in a meeting and someone keeps checking their watch, it tells you they’re bored or just plain old not interested in what you are talking about, I;d rather see someone pull out there blackberry to check a message then keep checking their watch, blackberry should concentrate on their really weak phone lineup and their stock thats plummeting rather then make novelty devices that there is no real need for. maybe a stock ticker on that watch to see how much dough Jim is losing all the time they keep spewing away there market share, Microberry only by Microsoft…..oneday..

  8. I had my hopes for this watch earlier this year. They took too long and so did RIM in terms of technology.

    Android watch please?
