Rogers releases new Pay As You Go BlackBerry Data Plans

Seems like there is a new set of plans released everyday. The flavour today is that Rogers has released 4 new Pay As You Go BlackBerry Data Plans. There are 2 basic plans with 4 choices. The BlackBerry E-mail has a $40 and a $55 option. The BlackBerry Social also has a $40 and a $55 option. They are almost the same with the basic services such as text messaging, unlimited calling, voicemail, call display, call waiting… the major difference comes down the actual BlackBerry services.

With the BlackBerry E-mail: “Unlimited personal email & instant messaging for popular communities Instant messaging applications that are applicable: BlackBerry Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, GoogleTalk, Yahoo! Messenger”

With the BlackBerry Social: “Unlimited Social Networking to Popular Sites. Sites that are applicable: Facebook, Twitter, MySpace Applications that are applicable: BlackBerry Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, GoogleTalk, Yahoo! Messenger”

It could be a good deal for those who don’t want to commit to anything long term, but in the end you’ll be paying a bit more for the services.

  1. They should sell off the remaining 8520s at a discount specifically for this. Like the Bell Blackberry I doubt you can add data to these plans though.

  4. not everyone who does prepaid is derelict welfare bums, some are in school and would rather pay what they can into a phone and not have big bill surprises later, others dont want a commitment and would like to be able to walk away from one carrier and go to another if they find a better deal.
I’m not on prepaid, and, this plan wouldnt work for me anyway, but its nice to see more options for people who dont want to be bullied into 3 year contracts.

    • Wow @harry, you’re a dick. I’m on a pay and talk plan, but I’m a professionally employed, university graduate, hardly a welfare bum (and my credit is excellent.) My reason – I moved across the country to a city where I didn’t know anyone. What’s the point of dropping $100+ a month on a phone I barely use?

Why don’t you do us all a favour and stop making broad sweeping assumptions. You just look like an a*s.

  6. @harry, you’re an asshat and you wear it well. Not everyone on prepaid is on welfare, some of us buy our phones outright and don’t deal with silly contracts for something that costs $300 to make.

This prices btw, blow. The price should be the price, period.

  7. @harry:

Actually, that was pretty funny…seems like a lot of the Fanboys are like that…the more you give them the more they want and expect everything from the Big Three. However, being on Wind they never tell the truth about their network and put-up with garbage claiming it’s better…always hilarious on here.

  11. Prepaid is the way to go…. If you locked in last year on BB or Iphone your rates are considerably higher today. As with a lot of technology, the longer it out in the market the lower the price point. Cell companies are going the way of internet dial-ups…. pick a company every week… until this market in Canada settles down, I expect anyone signing a 3 year individual (not a company package) contract, to be fairly uneducated, probably not employed in a professional career and can’t understand our welfare system. Sorry Harry, did I include you?
