RIM announces the BlackBerry Torch 9800
This morning Waterloo-based Reasearch In Motion officially announced their latest smartphone – the BlackBerry Torch 9800. This will be the first device that will have their new OS BlackBerry 6 and it’s hitting AT&T on August 12th. After the break are full specs of the Torch and this comes with both a QWERTY keyboard and a 3.2 inch touchscreen. When this arrives in Canada are you going to get this?

I’ll probably get that one since Bell doesn’t have the Palm Pre Plus :/
I just hope they’ll change the name in Canada because “Torch” in French sounds very weird.

It’s always been a little weird for me how RIM being a Canadian company they launch in the US first. While I understand it’s a bigger market, I’d still like to have seen a Canadian company launch in the US along with Canada at the same time.

“Powerful 624 Mhz processor”?!?! NOT
With the surge Android has been making, RIM will be in panic mode in the not too distant future…unlike RIM Google understands what the consumer wants and delivers…I’m about to jump ship, Android is the future, no denying it!

Well, its about damn time! Too bad us Canadians will have to wait around, once again, for the new phone to hit our market.

I love those buttons.
Even with a touch screen I find a good set of buttons to be really useful. Some of the Android phones have decent buttons, but the set shown in the pic of the new BB (which are pretty standard now for BB) are great.

I find it pretty sad that us Canadians will have to wait for a Canadian phone to arrive in Canada, when its already released in the states. Just saying.

@Romes, I somewhat agree with you, I think the Android platform will be the leading OS for the everyday consumer but I don’t think that any other company will be able to dent Blackberry’s core market. I still see using there first Blackberry with the clickwheel!

OS6 looks wicked.
I’m not sold on the 9800, but seeing OS6 makes me excited for the Storm3.

according to crackberry, BB bold 9700 will be getting OS 6.0 soon, I am so exciting about it because I pick the right BB 3 weeks ago as I choose Bold 9700 over Storm2 9550 because storm2 is not going to get software upgrade to 6.0.

A better title would have been “RIM announces they are no longer relevant.”

Is there a reason that the 2010 Olympic Torch looks like a blunt?

Hope 9800 build quality will be better. RIM has been having so much unit that has to be send for repair. Quality is not as great as before like the 8830,8800, 8330. If you work in a wireless retail store then you know what I mean. And it’s not just Hardware part, software part as well; they should focus on fixing current OS. There are many unhappy user out their because of software problem. Especially corporate user with BES integrated.
