Ok, we’re getting closer to knowing an estimated release date. With TELUS and Virgin confirming the new QWERTY/Touchscreen Torch 9800 will be available on their network. Rogers has also said they will be releasing this and on their company blog they reported that: “We’re excited to tell you we will carry this stylish smartphone as part of our BlackBerry lineup in the coming weeks.”
In addition, I reached out to our friends over at Bell and they had this to say: “The new BlackBerry Torch smartphone with BlackBerry 6 will be coming this fall to Bell Mobility. And because apps work best on the best network, Bell clients will enjoy using the BlackBerry 9800 Torch to access impressive mobile services from like TV, radio, Remote PVR, Visual Voicemail, GPS Navigator and more. We will keep you posted with more details as we get closer to availability.”
So with the above comment it looks like it’ll land in Canada sometime between the dates of September 23rd December 20th.
“coming weeks” sounds to me its going to be available from Rogers earlier then September 23rd…

Small, low resolution screen, and underpowered CPU/RAM… Hrmph. I was excited, thought it might be a decent competitor in the smartphone market (I *do* miss BBM).

from what I have seen and heard of the new OS and torch, at least the antenna works well. I am not sure about anything else.

Lol Rick – so that puts it a step above the iPhone 4 (though, this article claims it’s not much of an issue: http://mobilesyrup.com/2010/08/01/how-to-get-your-free-iphone-4-case-from-apple/ ) – but that still doesn’t help when you’re comparing it to, say, the Samsung Galaxy S.

I agree Ryan, 3.2 inch screen….480X360 screen? No thank you. This pretty much all but confirms that I will be picking up a Samsung Galaxy S and rooting it.

I don’t think this phone has the potential to save RIM, but definitely boost it. It’s not up there with iOS and Android. RIM needs to fine tweak some parts and then it might just be a killer! Although all these new features intense, especially media syncing. But I don’t know how far that’s gonna take them until itunes.com/google’s cloud music server.

I don’t think BB is going to need any saving in the short term. Still preferred by all business users I know (which is their primary market).

BBM is not enough to get me to sign another 3yrs for a sub’d device. All RIM needs to do is impress me with the new OS and make it so people can’t see that I read their messages.
I mean I know you can see the first message in your message app and you don’t have to open it, but its usually cut off or you are reading it and someone sends you another and now you have to read it…. and all it is, is a spam message about RIM servers being full…

Negative Mike V,
It was still the preferred by Business Users a year or so ago. Alot, and trust me when I say ALOT of businesses are switching over to the iphone because they now offer competitive security features and tailor made apps respective to their needs.

I wish they would just give a confirmed date. It’s not like the telephone companies wing this stuff. It’s like “Oh let’s release it ummmmmm this week”

I have a Bold 9700 and am looking forward to running OS6 on it! My next upgrade will be a tossup between the Torch 9800 or one of the really smokin’ Androids with a slide out keyboard ie: Droid X or Xperia Mini Pro.

STOP saying that Android is great or that it’s usable as a business device/comparable to BlackBerry.
Android is a baby. Apps don’t make a good OS. They are add-on “Toys”.
BlackBerry OS is still way ahead of Android and Apple in core features. There is no disputing this.
I would have liked to seen better resolution, slightly larger screen, slightly lighter, slightly better processor.

“And because apps work best on the best network, Bell clients will enjoy using the BlackBerry 9800 Torch…”
I hate you, Bell. Shameless plugs in replies to unrelated topics make your company look cheap.
And what is that even supposed to mean? An app is an app. It’ll work or it won’t. There’s no “higher-quality” Twitter for being a Bell client.

Well, I think it’s sad this phone is launched in the US before it’s available in Canada. RIM is a Canadian company and should stay true to their home nation and allow us to enjoy their products before they sell out to the US market.

I had seen the full demonstration of the phone TORCH 9800 on the AT&T and I believe it is wonderful.
According to the general policies that our Carriers perform, the price
will be 99.99 for 3-Year contract and 499.99 for no commitment.
Data plan should be the same like AT&T.
What do you think?
