Virgin Mobile Canada is the latest to hop on the $30 6GB train for the iPhone 4 launch tomorrow. They tweeted that “heads-up! our 6GB $30/month data plan is coming. details up tomorrow”. We’re curious why Virgin would wait until tomorrow to release details? Regardless… “members” should be happy about this coming to Virgin.
Update: Virgin sent us an e-mail stating “we’ll have it available tomorrow from Virgin Mobile stores and several of our retail partners including The Source. I’ll let you know as soon as full pricing and any other details are available.”
Update #2: Virgin has put a countdown on their site in anticipation of the iPhone 4 launch.
Update #3: Virgin has updated their site and it says they will offer “awesome deals on data”:
1GB for $35/month
2GB for $50/month
6GB for $30/month
Update #4: Virgin has the iPhone 4 now up for sale online: $30/6GB promo with 16GB version for $659.99 on 30-day and $159.99 on a 3-year. The 32GB version is $769.99 on a 30-day and $269.99 on a 3-year.

I’ll call it now. People will line up only to find out that the price will be $199/$299 on a 3yr.

Look at that, every major carrier offering the exact same plans. Shocking! Competition sure is strong, right CRTC?

Of course it will be on a 3-year plan. All the best deals are on a 3-year plan. I don’t really see the big deal with this, unless you don’t think you will keep your phone for 3 years, and by your phone, just a some sort of phone.
If next year there is a better phone that you have to have, you buy it outright and it doesn’t affect your contract.

They’re waiting till tomorrow for the same reason all the carriers have waited – they value competition over customers.

Looks like everyone is doing status quo and none of Rogers, Bell or Telus want to one up each other…

Damn right. I wish more people would realize this. What the hell is the point of having all these carriers if they all offer the same price?? Total BS in my opinion. They should just be merged into one company then…..

There are currently no plans at the big 3 and their branches that has a good value for the money. The closest plan that comes with the most value is the Virgin student deal. If they offered voicemail and call display as well, it would be a deal. It’s odd because the $50 smartphone combo offers voicemail call display, but the 50$ student deal doesn’t.

Man, I am getting seriously fed about about this. All three big carriers or their sub-brands offer the exact same rip-off plan, down to the fine-print. Then we have Chatr not launching in Montreal because, guess what, there’s only a single new entrant to the market here, so they make sure to let people boil just a little longer until sometime in fall the bigger new entrant Videotron will launch. And I am betting $100 that Rogers will launch Chatr on the exact same day as Videotron launches their network and not one minute earlier.
This is all just a big farce.

Why even bother displaying the other two plans when the 6gb one is cheaper AND gives more data? It would just confuse people.

The sad thing is they are still making lots of money at this price.

the 6gb for $30 is a promotional add-on that runs until Sept 30th. They posted the other 2 to showcase the promotion and get people eager to sign up.

Actually, that price “game” is shown to bring more sales and is explained in the book: Predictably Irrational. It’s not a mistake, but sales tactics.
