Super LCD officially introduced into “a variety of HTC phones including the HTC Desire”

When TELUS officially announced the HTC Desire a couple weeks ago there was talk of how the screen suddenly changed from a Samsung AMOLED display to a Sony Super LCD screen. Well, today it’s now made official and HTC’s CEO Peter Chou said that due to “high-demand for many of our phones, specifically our phones with 3.7 inch displays” they “introduced Super LCD display (SLCD) technology into a variety of HTC phones including the HTC Desire and global Nexus One later this summer.”

HTC does do some comparisons of the screens and says the “SLCD is the latest generation of LCD technology that offers improved performance from earlier LCD panels including approximately five times better power management.”

  3. Battery life is definitely a concern of mine in regards to the Desire. Can’t wait to see those battery tests done for the Telus Desire.

  4. The fact of the matter is, most of us don’t have two or three phones laying on our desk all the time; Turn them all on each morning to compare, and then go about our day with the one that looks best in a side by side comparison.

The Desire has an 800 x 480 screen. I’m sure if you go with that, you’ll be more than pleased with it even if there is another phone out there with a marginally better screen. I agree with Justin, the only real concern should be battery life, but the stated battery life specs are as good as or better than the norm for a large screen smart phone.

  6. People are making a big dead of battery life. I just got my first smartphone and after two weeks of excitement I’m settling down and the battery life isn’t too bad.

  7. So, originally the Desire was supposed to have an AMOLED screen, right? The SLCD means improved battery performance. As someone who doesn’t really care about the minute difference in visual performance, this change (increasing the battery performance) makes an average user like me even more excited for the desire! Aug. 3rd was the release date, correct?

  11. How can one tell if a phone has the SLCD screen?
How do you know Telus is getting the old screens?
