Every Monday we conduct a new poll… this time we’re curious to see what dollar amount Canadians pay out each month to our wireless carriers. With all the new carriers in Canada the monthly rates are getting more competitive and supposed to be dropping. However, people are transitioning away from basic devices and adopting Smartphones and possibly spending a bit more to have additional services.
So take this quick poll and also leave your comments. We’ll have it open for the next day.
Update: The poll is now closed. After 1,189 votes it seems that at the top was 30% of Canadians pay between $50 – $69 per month on their wireless bill.

My bill with Telus is $91.40 inc taxes
2GB data
500 min voice
incoming calls
unlimited text
Would love to lower bill, however, can live with it

(Vancouver) $56 at the moment with telus (Smartphone). I’d prefer to swap to Wind, but AWS handsets are kinda meh, but on top of that coverage is always questionable.
I probably would have jumped ship fast if the new entrants were standard 3G+ frequencies.

The frequencies “problem” is a regulatory one. Nothing much can be done.
And they are STANDARD. Just that they are not the same as what is deployed by the incumbents.

Currenly on Telus with my BlackBerry its $35 a month for the BB Student Bundle and included 12 dollar loyalty package, and when I get my Desire, I’m switching to the clearchoice 50 plan which will end up being about 3 dollars more since I don’t have to pay a system access fee.

I so get you Adam! I was paying $150 a month, with about $70 in overages. I would call into Bell, they would move me to this plan or that, add this, take away that and I always got these outrageous bills. A friend of mine recommended me calling eTopia Communications and they looked at what I used & how I used it and got a plan just right for me, and saved me $80 a month ( and switched me to Rogers). I couldn’t be happier! No more struggles with any carrier, eTopia took care of it all for me!

Base: $25/month with Virgin
100 daytime min, unltd eve/weekends start @ 7, unltd text/pic msgs.
However I seem to be going over that consistently with my latest being around $74.. Would switch but would have to get a decent value for $35/month, there’s a mental block that’s preventing me from paying that much.

Mine is $56 (plus taxes) includes 200 day mins, 5 Nation wide Fav Numbers, evenings at 6pm with VM10, call display, 250 texts, call forwarding and 30 mins of additional long distance over and above the 5 Favs and can’t forget 500MB of BlackBerry Data. Unlimited talk and text plans for $50 aren’t a bargain and $65 unlimited BB plans from the new guys are limited in where you can travel before additional roaming fees kick in outside a major city. Pretty useless. My plan suites me perfectly!

We used to use them for one of our phones but it was getting too expensive on pre-paid so we put my wife on a plan under my account on Bell, should save us some money.
PC in my opinion is one of the best pre-paid services around though.

My Rogers Wireless bill is 50/MONTH + 2.58 rip-off fee, 8 call display = 60.58 + tax
price is not bad because it has 500 mb data, unlimite evenings and weekends at 6, and unlimited text and pic messaging… but the disturbing part is that 8 bucks for call ID is a little too much, and 2ndly, for a basic voice and data plan that above 60 bucks per month before tax… it should have few more hundred minutes… like 600 or 700 mins, instead of 200 mins. and here is the JOKE (they say its 150 minutes plus 50 BONOUS minutes.. ) they are jews with minutes and still manage to make you think that they are giving you a bonus… BOOO

This plan is more than enough for me as I use skype to make outgoing phone calls. The major problem I have is the issue with reception inside buildings. Bell us really bad inside. My Rogers friends always have reception when I have no signal

I grabbed onto a corporate plan with Bell at my old company, 32.50 after tax and service charges gets me a pretty sweet plan – unlimited mobile browsing, unlimited nights and weekends (6pm start) 400 anytime, Caller ID, Voicemail, Bell to Bell and some other stuff I never use. My bill says I’m getting comped $69 every month.
Add on another 3.50 a month for my long distance number, so $36.

I’ve been with Fido for 14 years and I can’t remember if I’ve ever switched my plan.
$45/plus package (includes VM, CID)
300 mins
UL E/W starting @ 7pm till ??
+ $10 for 2500 txts (used to be for UL but they changed it)
+ 911 and SAF and taxes
Base bill = $69.24
Unfortunately, bills of this amount are extremely rare. My bills typically come in somewhere between $150 to $230 each month.
I’ve been hunting for a new plan for probably a year but it keeps getting put off.
