iPhone 4 pricing: 16GB for $659 & 32GB for $779?

This morning Apple gently reminded us Canadians that the new iPhone 4 will be available on Friday. We’re still waiting for official pricing from the carriers, but other countries sell the iPhone 4 on contract for $199 16GB model $299 for the 32GB model. We’ve known that Apple will sell the iPhone 4 unlocked but have yet to know what the cost of buying it off-contract. According to the CBC they state that “the 16-gigabyte unit will sell for $659 while the 32-GB version will cost $779.”

  1. Interesting, I wonder where they got that info from, as that’s the first place I’ve seen it.

  2. I hope this is pricing is true for an unlocked iPhone 4. The Bell/Telus/Rogers should set a lower subsidized price point if selling carrier locked iPhones.

  3. Only Apple could get away with charging an extra $120 for 16GB of memory.

    • Thats actually not uncommon for an unsubsidized price on a cellphone, my BB Pearl was 500 off contract when I grabbed it and the Galaxy S is about 720. Carriers knock a little bit off the prices when you sign a contract with them, for example they could make 800 dollars off you right away or give you the iFlop 4 for 200 bucks then charge you 50 bucks a month as a minimum data plan for 3 years which works out to being 2000 dollars.

  9. After the Rogers discount and selling my current phone the price will be reasonable enough. Count me in.

    • Rogers discounting means that I will be subsidising your expensive pocket sized computer which can incidently make phone calls (although poorly from what I hear).

Why don’t Rogers offer plans for people who have purchased their phones outright so we don’t have to subsidise people who want everybody else to pay for their expensive handset!

    • Because they can get away with it. Laws in Canada are not meant to protect consumers. Hidden fee is rampant, and nothing is done to have truly advertised price a norm in Canada.

This also apply to the HST racket and other “fees”.

  10. I can’t believe we’re less than a week away from launch, and still no word or pricing (even solid availability) from some carriers!

  13. I think I am going to go with the $450 no contract desire from walmart (telus) and get it unlocked. Seeing as most of alberta has shady coverage and the iphone 4 drops calls calls like crazy.

I agree with shawn $120 for 16 GB is nuts.
Esp when you can buy a 16GB off amazon for $24
    and a 32Gb for $90.

  14. WELL TELUS is being SHADY with the iPhone 4!!! They say that the reduced prices are with NEW CONTRACTS ONLY and that is your contract is offered for renewal and is NOT completely onver a person WILL PAY THE FULL AMOUNT OF $749.00.. that’ right!!!…Telus is making customers pay for the iPhone 4 full price if you are already a customer however new customer get the deal!!! They also told me that the I could get the iPhone 3 which they still ofeer but I went to 8 yes ..8 stores looking for the iPhone 3 and none carris stock that includes Sony. Plus I was offered a refreshed iPhone 3 for the Mid-contract renewal where I had to laugh at the person at the other end of the line at telus…One other thing Telus also explained the existing customer have to wait for the iPhone for on contract renewal “because we are low on stock and save the new phone arrivals for new customers”
