At the Apple iPhone 4 press conference today Steve Jobs announced that they’ll be giving people who purchased the device a free case or a bumper, this will help solve antenna issues. The offer stands until September 30th. Also, they will give users a full refund if they want it (within 30 days of purchase).
In addition, what’s also important for us Canadians is that he announced the release date is set for July 30th. Jobs states that “Also on July 30th, we’re going to bring the iPhone to 17 more countries, with the omission of South Korea. So that’s the update on iPhone 4.”
Wonder if us Canadians will be lucky enough to get both colours (Black and White models). Will you be getting the new iPhone 4 or sticking with a iPhone 3GS?

Atleast iPhones come out every year not every month like android, i bought my htc hero and within a couple months i already felt that it was old news with all the other new androids coming out and HTC still hasent even upgraded the telus hero to 2.1….

Sadly you can no longer get any of the 3GS models through TELUS other than the 8GB. So it’s either that or the iPhone 4 when they get them in.

@Don, have you been living under a rock for the past 2 years?
Pricing has been in line with the rest of the world for the iPhone.
Its going to be $199/$299 (16/32).

so did Jobs say if the antenna issue will be fixed for the canada launch? I’d rather buy a defective iphone however I’ll take the case anyway.

I’m sure Telus is still selling the 16 & 32 iPhone 3GS. I resigned a new contract and got a 16gb from them. That was 3 weeks back. In regards to getting a bumper for the iPhone 4. So what happens after September 30th? Buy the phone, spend another 30 bucks plus HST?! Rather insulting to the customer don’t you think? And frankly who ever brings back the phone for refund, still is signed to a contract…what a mess Apple. Just admit it, fix the problem and move on.

I just got a 3GS from Rogers on may 21st … thats JUST over two months between then and the apparently launch date of the iPhone 4. I wonder if Rogers is going to do anything for me in the form of a rebate or letting me upgrade to an iPhone 4… any info on that?

@Omar – if you bought the HTC Hero when Telus released it in Canada, it WAS already old news. It takes *forever* for Canadian carriers to get new Android phones out here, it’s actually ridiculous. The fact that we only have to wait a month after its US release for the iPhone is incredibly fast in comparison to some of the other phones out there (we’ll see how long it takes Bell to get the Galaxy S, which is just launching in the US now).
And yeah, Steve said in his speech that white iPhone4′s are coming at the end of the month… So it’s doubtful that there’ll be enough supply to get them up here by then. Also, no way in hell will there be a hardware fix for the antenna issue at that point.
@eugene ciabattoni Of COURSE there will be an updated iPhone by next year. Just like there’s an updated HTC Desire HD due this fall (note that the Desire hasn’t even launched on Telus yet) and there’s an updated Droid X that just launched in the US (when did Telus get the Milestone again?). Manufacturers update their phones just about every year. Will next year’s iPhone update be as significant as the difference between the 3GS and the iPhone 4? I guess those who don’t want to upgrade now will find out. I didn’t think the 3GS was enough of an upgrade to warrant getting rid of my 3G, but my 3G is starting to feel old and busted so I think it’s DEFINITELY worth it for me to upgrade to the 4 now.

The guy at Rogers Plus told me I can’t upgrade before another 13 months unless I pay for early cancellation because the HUP only allows one to upgrade a smartphone for every 2 years. So unless they change or remove the restriction, many folks who purchased the 3Gs won’t jump on the 4 I guess.

@Alex
Really???why would they do that when everyone knows a new phone model comes out every june/july. Not to ruin the surpirse but the iphone 5 will be our june/july 2011. Also the iphone 4 was leaked online in april and it was on every tech/mobile site.

@wildspin Last year, Rogers let certain iPhone 3G purchasers (depending on their usage) upgrade to the 3GS when it was released. They may very well make a similar exception this year. However, to Alex, who bought the 3GS in May… Silly! It was pretty well known at that point that a new iPhone was coming out this summer. Heck, *THIS VERY SITE* covered it:

Pff have fun Apple Fanboys, oh and make sure you send away for your FREE case cover so you can make a phone call while holding the phone. This of course because Apple doesn’t know how to engineer or test there new phones, because they know the fanboys/girls will follow regardless.
Apple = Over priced, Over rated

@ Ryan – That is true, i really do like android its just i hate how us Canadians have to wait for every android(by the time its gets to canada its old news) and if i got iPhone atleast i wouldn’t have to wait for software updates and such, i just dont think the galaxy S is the phone for me. i want something like a canadian EVO but we all know that wont happen for a long time. to me the atenna issue isnt that big of a deal beacause i hold my phone with my right hand =P and there will be a case on that thing no matter what.

Here in Canada we have much better GSM/ HSPA coverage than AT&T in USA. We won’t have perfect reception on iPhone 4 but it will be better than AT&T, I have travelled all over US, and GSM is terrible there.

Does anyone think the white iPhone 4 will be available at Canadian launch? Also, will there be any pre-orders/sign up sheets from either Apple or the carriers?
For those in Vancouver… where would you line up? Pacific Centre Apple Store, Oakridge Apple Store, or go to Future Shop/Telus Store?

Why is everyone wondering what the pricing will be? Same pricing.
16G IP4 (3yr) @ 199.99
32G IP4 (3yr) @ 299.99
The only thing that might change is the outright price of them (16G 3GS = 699.99 and 32G 3Gs = 799.99). So that’s the only changes I could see happening is if you wanted to buy your phone outright.
If you do plan on buying your phone outright you might as well buy it from an Apple Store (going in or online). When you buy an Iphone4 outright from Apple, they come UNLOCKED. This is a perfect solution for people who want the iphone4 with no contract. Something to think about.
Oh and I don’t think the antenna issue will be a huge problem up here.
1. AT&T sucks
2. The antenna issue has been and still blown out of propotion.
Take a look at any product and the defect/issue rate with them. They’ve sold approx 3 million iphones. Now let’s be generous and say 100,000 of them have the antenna issue (Remember, you’re not hearing about the iphones that are PERFECTLY FINE). That’s still 3.33% of the total phones that don’t work. Look at any launch/release date and that’s perfectly acceptable with everyone else except when it’s apple.
Let’s be honest, regardless of antenna issue or not, people will buy this phone. When people have the antenna issue they will still continue to keep the phone and not return it. Why? Because it’s an awesome phone. Half the people that bash the phone (Gizmodo included) will eventually be using it and have one in their hand
Buy a phone for yourself and experience it for yourself. Don’t choose NOT to buy the phone just because a few people had bad luck.

unlocked or not? “If your iPhone 4 is unlocked via jailbreaking, every time Apple releases a new iOS update you’re stuck in limbo. You can’t update via iTunes or you’ll lose your unlock.”But jailbreaking iphone 4 is legal in USA. Maybe, iphone 4 should provide something richer for developers to create for, like ifunia, who declared they are dedicated in creating affordable and easy multimedia software to simplify your Mac life, but not kill them with “iTunes”. Then I’ll purchase an unlocked with no hesitation.
