Samsung sells 1 million Wave devices in 4-weeks

Samsung’s first Bada-powered device called the “Wave” just launched in Canada last week but the results are in globally. Justin Hong, project lead and architect of Bada stated on Twitter that it only took a quick 4-weeks to sell 1 million units. Very impressive and with the price points we can see why. You can get this for as low as $29.95 on a 3-year  and no contract as low as $299.95.

For those in Canada who purchased the Wave are you liking Samsung’s Bada platform? Creating any apps?

  1. If the QWERTY slider is available for the same or similar price then I might bite. Wish it were Android but at that price I’ll live with an OS called “Bada” – it’s no worse than “MeeGo”!

I still don’t understand why everyone has to have their own _open_ OS. If it’s open then contribute to it instead of wasting resources on another fork!

Its fast, with an incredible screen, but … it uses Samsung Apps rather than Android Market

  3. I can’t find it anywhere. I called rogers they were like they didn’t have it in stock try a rogers store. The rogers store(‘s) I went to said they did not receive it yet and didn’t even have the dummy out on display. Other retailers were also checked and they did not receiver it either. IMO something is up…

  4. obviously it doesn’t use the Android Market, it’s not an Android phone. So far though there are over 300 apps on this and I think that number is about to explode because I don’t think they’ve release the full paid apps library.

But yea.. declaring that a phone “ain’t so good” because it doesn’t have 20000 apps that do nothing… not right. A lot of features are simply built in. No need for apps that edit video or photos, and there even a music recognition feature in there

  5. For all you know Robellus this phone could be the next “iphone” and bada could be the next Android. The phone hasn’t been fully globally released (I think) and I completely agree with what Endi said.

  6. This is really good to know. I’ve been wanting to try out that Wave, but haven’t had the chance yet. If its already sold 1 million in one month with a new Bada OS and very little to no advertising, this is a good sign. My next phone will either be the Wave or Galaxy S, so I’m not too sure on what to get.

  7. I’m so happy to read this, I have mine on order should be in tomorrow. The more that are sold the more support Samsung and the developers will put into the Bada platform. Bring on the apps!

  8. I purchased the Samsung Wave July 9th, so I’ve had 5 full days to test it out. I previously owned the Samsung Omnia, Instict and Ericsson smartphones, and this is the best by far.

The hardware itself is better than anything on the market. It is fast, stable, has a brilliant display, and responsive touch screen. I was used to the Windows Mobile system, but it took no time to customize the phone the way I like with the Bada platform.

The internet browser is stable and is able to load multiple full html web pages. It reminded me of Opera mobile 10, less the need to reboot every so often.

The phone requires Samsung’s ‘Kies’ software to access the phone on the computer and set up sync schedules … unfortunately it is not currently compatible with Outlook. However, with a Google or Live account for calendar and contacts, the Wave can synchronize itself wirelessly.

The social features on the phone are mindblowing. I’m still trying to familiarize myself with all the features. But I can load Msn Messenger, (plus other messengers), Internet websites, Facebook, Tweeter, text and email all at the same time, while listening to songs on the music player. The phone has not failed, frozen or rebooted yet.

I’ve read complaints about system resources. To avoid this, I have an 8 Gb micro sd card which is set to default install apps, save photos and video, save internet cookies and caches, and store music. This way, the system memory is free to run perfectly.

The bada platform is intuitive. I cannot go back to a windows mobile platform again. The only negative thing I can say about the Canadian Wave version … it does not come with Voice Command. However, this could easily be installed as an app via the app store. Samsung? Voice Command please? It’s essential for driving.

Without rambling, I haven’t even touched on the amazing camera, 720P video recorder, and long battery life.

    I love this phone.

  9. I’ve just purchased this phone,
Ive had a iPhone 3Gs. an HTC Hero, recently been toying around with a Sony X10 and HTC Legend…
THIS IS THE BEST , ABSOLUTE BEST MULTIMEDIA PHONE ON THE MARKET.

    1# BEST SCREEN bar none
2# BEST web browsing experience comp with FLASH
    3# HD recorded
4# 1GHZ processer to back all this up.

I’ve been in the industry for years and this phone just destroys any “multimedia” or feature rich device.

    Hear me out people,
    300$ is a STEAL
