This is what RIM has been working on for a long time and what BlackBerry fans have asked for. Check out the video below of the new WebKit browser in action. Big improvements from it’s current state which will make the BlackBerry a greater experience with pinch and zoom, tabbed browsing and pages render complete websites. The video of the demo is done by Driphter.com on the upcoming 9800 slider, on OS 6.0.0.91 and still an early prototype.

@EraqEE – Your fanboyism is showing, jeez, relax.
Although I’m moving on to Android, I’m sure that Blackberry users are going to love this. It’s about time RIM stepped their game up before they loose more user support.

The piss-poor browser on the Blackberry was one of the bigest reasons I went with the iPhone several years ago.
Nice to see RIM finally got with the program. Unfortunately for them it’s a few years too late – lots of people have become loyal to other platforms already after having bypassed BB devices for this very reason.
For current BB owners though, or those looking to enter the smartphone market with a BB, it’s certainly a stellar improvement.

I left my bb behind because the browsing was brutal… Well that and the fact that I was tired of people knowing I read their messages on bbm. Change/toggle the read notifications and i’ll pick one up again.

@ Mark:
Why is it too late? Although I’ve been using the iphone for 3 years, the e-mail/messaging system on RIM has always exceeded that of Apple.
The reason I’ve stuck with Apple was because RIM’s browser was awful – essentially useless.
With what I’m seeing with the 9800 slider, this is most certainly a reason I – and likely others – will switch to BB.

Are you accusing me of being an Android fan? I’ve never used such device and I probably never will ’cause I’ve had some really bad experiences with Open Source software in the past!
I prefer not having a cell phone at all actually but I need one so I have no choice!

Mobilesyrup needs to publish my comments earlier! I thought my other ones weren’t because of foul language so I’m sorry for spamming!
It is not my fault!

the demo fails to show what happens when you want to actually read a column of text. I don’t care about the zooming feature most of the time. I just want to tap once or twice on a column of text and be able to read it with a legible font without left-to-right scrolling. The competition has been able to do this for years.

RIM Blackberry is one of the biggest companies on the planet. Great email-messaging phone for business. But someone explain to me in plain english why they dragged their feet to get a decent browser on their phones? Let alone it took them forever to put out a 3G phone. They remind me of IBM or Bell: two big corporations totally out of touch with their customers and what’s going on in the world. That video showing the browser was awful!! My iPhone 3GS and Android HTC Dream run native web-kit 1000 times better. And neither have to catch up to render the page. Its probably a work in progress so I shouldn’t diss RIM until they create a final working browser. I wish them the best…

So many people on here have no clue about what they’re talking about. The iphone and Android do the same thing when flicking very quickly through a page. For those who say Android doesn’t do this, please video tape a web page with a black background and flick through it and prove to me it doesn’t do this. And don’t forget, this is not out yet so the finished product will be much improved.

@Pete
I agree.
People also need to realize the video is showing full pages being rendered, not just mobile sites.
I have an iphone, and it’s browser is much slower than the one in the video.
