The joint venture between Rogers, Bell and TELUS called “Zoompass” has just taken home the high award of “Best Mobile Application” from ACT Canada. I’ve never heard of ACT Canada and according to their website they’re “the authority on the Canadian market” when it comes to “secure payment, secure identity management and other advanced applications”.
Zoompass is a free app that’s available on the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices and gives customers the ability to send, receive and request money, check account balance, review transactions all by using your mobile phone. Apparently the reasons why they won is because of their “leading edge encryption technologies” and that it’s quick, easy and that you need a pin to send money.
Best Mobile application is no joke as there’re some many organizations building apps out there. All the banks have now jumped on board such as CIBC, TD, ING etc… So congrats to all the people over at Zoompass!

How is this any better than Paypal anyways? Obviously Paypal has its own faults, but does Zoom have like lower rates or something?
Seems like a pain to have too many different things that do the same thing.
I’ll do a little of my own research on it.

Is this one of those association that hands out “awards” to all of it’s members? So far the only justification for using Zoompass is requesting money from your parents (according to their website). And you need to maintain a separate account – it’s not linked to your bank account!!! There are no merchants that accept Zoompass and Interac or credit card are much more convenient.

I use Zoompass and Paypal, and Zoompass does have lower rates. The other benefit is that you can get a prepaid credit card attached to your zoompass account, and best of all, it’s CANADIAN!!!

I signed up for one almost a month ago. I haven’t used it yet, but I’m sure I will. Not many people have even heard of it. Sure there already is Paypal, but Zoompass is Canadian. I like the prepaid Mastercard you get that is usable with your Zoompass funds. I still need to connect my bank account to my Zoompass (and prepaid Mastercard). I can’t wait to use it. It does need to be cheaper to use. And more common place. The Mastercard has PayPass, Zero Liability and ATM withdrawals. CHECK IT OUT! You’ve got nothing to lose

I have been using Zoompass since January 2010. I use it for the prepaid Master Card. I can transfer money from my TD account and it is there in less than 24 hours. It’s simple and you can almost do it for no fees. The only fees are if you take money from an ATM or make a purchase with it outside Canada. And if that is how they make some profit, then good for t them. No business can run without making money and I would like them to be around for a while. Paypal charges fees for almost everything. Usually I am not interested in services from the major cell companies, but but my experience of zoompass is different. It’s simple, very low cost and just works. As to an organization that exists only to promote it’s members, this ‘self promotion’ is what many companies are doing.

Why are people using these zoompass stickers on their phones! Does that not target a highway robbery?? You might as well carry your credit card in your right hand everywhere you go! Also I hear they are scamming people into freezinf accounts so you can’t access your money and they make interest on your money. Read this blog I found zoompass.blogspot.com
