CDMA iPhone 4 in the works?

With majority of the carriers already having the iPhone in their lineup there’s talk today that a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 will start shipping during Q4. No word on a Canadian release but it seems the carriers are all transitioning away from this technology in favour of HSPA. Would you want a CDMA iPhone 4??

According to DigiTimes “Pegatron will also start shipping a CDMA version of the iPhone 4 to Apple in the fourth quarter and is currently using its plants in Shanghai, China to produce the products, the sources noted.”

    There are still some (very few) areas where CDMA still has better coverage than HSPA. If Bell/Telus were to pick up a CDMA iPhone 4, it could also confuse customers, but I wouldn’t mind it.

    This is mostly for Verizion in the USA since Apple is taking a beating over AT&Ts crappey service.

    How bout one that works on Wind, so i can have unlimited Voice and Data on a iPhone

    how about an AWS iPhone? not that i want one but it would likely boost the number of subscribers for new carriers.

    Are Bell & Telus still selling phones that work on CDMA? I thought they would support existing CDMA customers all up to a point, then eventually switch off the service.

    And after SaskTel and MTS have converted their networks to run HSPA, who else would still be using CDMA as their only network infrastructure?

    Let’s not beat around the bush: the poularity of smartphones like the iPhone (and lack of it on CDMA networks) was a major reason CDMA carriers are doing this switch anyways…

    How big is the market for AWS?

    pointless

    Anyone that has wind services cannot afford an iPhone.

    @thep

    WTF is that supposed to mean?

  • Gussy

    No, it is old tech. No one outside of the US and Canada is really using it anymore. I don’t see Apple being that short sighted. 4G is more probable as everyone is transitioning to that standard, in time.

    Wow I can’t beleive this rumor is still out there it’s been out there since 2008!!!! I think that desperate people in the US can’t get over the fact that Verizon won’t be getting an iPhone until the LTE version is released next year…
