WIND releases 10 reasons why they are better than Mobilicity

We posted earlier that WIND requested Canadians to have a “buyer beware” mentality when considering new wireless carrier Mobilicity. However it looks like they are really digging in the heals as they have released a top 10 comparison of what makes them the better choice over Mobilicity.

UPDATE: This is sent to us by WIND’s PR Agency (Narrative Advocacy Media) – not fabricated by us.

Here they are… what do you think:

1. Limited Coverage
WIND’s growing network is already about four times bigger than Mobilicity’s. In the GTA alone, WIND’s network is twice the size of Mobilicity’s. That’s what “greater” coverage really means.

2. NO Mobility!
WIND’s unlimited services can be used in the greater Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver regions – regardless of where the WIND customer lives. Mobilicity customers pay extra as soon as they step outside Mississauga, Scarborough, or Richmond Hill.

3. $20 for a song!
With Mobilicity, you’ll need to pay $65/month to get a data plan on anything other than a Blackberry or else you have to pay $5 per megabyte (MB). The typical MP3 download is around 4MB — that’s $20 to listen to your favourite song at Mobilicity! WIND offers choice — you can buy plan that works for you AND get a data add-on that suits your needs. And with WIND you can tether, stream, and P2P. Can you do that with Mobilicity’s data??

4. Unexpected Charges
Looks like Mobilicity could charge roaming even while you’re in the GTA! Unless you’ve got a Mobilicity coverage map in your pocket, you’ll incur unexpected roaming charges as you move about certain areas of the GTA and anywhere beyond. And unlike WIND, your handset won’t tell you when you’re outside your WIND Zone. ‘

5. NO entry-level handset
WIND’s handset range better suits our customers’ needs starting at the $70 Huawei up to $450 for a Blackberry Bold 9700. Mobilicity phone’s range from a $100 Totem (???) or Sony Ericsson TM506 up to $500 for a Blackberry Bold 9700.

6. $45 Voicemail
With Mobilicity it looks like you have to pay at least $45 in order to get Voicemail.
With WIND, you can get voicemail added to any plan you want.

7. NO Choice: Only Pre-Paid
They’re just pre-paid – Mobilicity customers don’t get a choice.
WIND offers both prepaid and postpaid on all of our phones, prices and plans.

8. Limited Roaming
With WIND, you can take your phone and any plan to over 200 countries and territories. At Mobilicity, you better not travel outside North America and hope to use your phone – and it’s unclear if Mobilicity’s US roaming is working right now

9. NO Value-Added
Unlike WIND, Mobilicity doesn’t include extra features as part of all their plans – Where’s the call waiting, call forwarding, conference calling, missed call alerts for everyone that WIND provides at no additional cost? And WIND offers Province-Wide or Canada-wide calling on ALL Plans, while Mobilicity seems to be using the antiquated local calling area concept.

10. NO Promotions
WIND is offering 50% of all plan fees for 6 months right now. More importantly, WIND is giving current customers up to 6 months of free plan fees for friends they bring to WIND.

  1. You forgot to look into teh Data Terms of Use. No tether, no p2p, no “multi-media streaming” and no voip.

  3. Shouldn’t Wind be attacking the incumbents? This just looks silly, Wind must be hurting pretty bad for Subs if they are worried about Mobilicity.

  4. @ Michael P wind had comparison charts released showing how you can save $XX with wind over the big3. Things like this need to be spoonfed to the public since most average wireless customers can’t chew gum and walk at the same time.

  5. WIND has better deals, no doubt.

It’ll be interesting to see if Moblicity comes out with a Promotion. If not, i’ll be a WIND customer before May 31st.

  6. Least they tell the truth.. Unlike the Big 3 make up thier own stories… I dont mind them comparing makes me not to miss the small details. Anyways I will stick with WIND NOW, I still have 150 credit with them. Mobilicity is good too better than WIND in Unlimited International Calling and Texting Plan. If you do International Activity Mobilicity is the best for you. If Local Calling I would say WIND is better. As for Public Mobile?? Hmmm what were they thinking… They going to fail big time..

  8. -We are forgeting that the wind network is the worst network in all of canada.

    - we are forgetting that wind is giving out crazy deals to sing up customers and make them forget the fact that the network is shti. Plus to inflate their numbers to make them look good.

    - mobilicity is offering unlimited asia, whats is wind offering.

-You could have the best deal and best plans but your customers cant use them becaue u r not solving the main problem “NET WORK”.

  11. Wind needs to focus on improving their network and services before asking people to join them.

For instance, Mobilicity will have Online Purchases available from the get go, which Wind doesn’t have and they’ve been around for 6 months already!

  12. Pretty good reasons… the majority of them make logical sense! There is one thing nagging at me though, Mobilicity has a larger range of plans than WIND does, something I’ve never understood… Flexibility to encompass a larger percentage of the market should be something WIND to aspire to, not avoid -.-’.

  13. can’t argue for ppl livin within mobilicity’s coverage cud get $40 unlimited internet for laptops and desktops, there is a $25 plan with unlimited talk and their $35 plan is unlimited talk/test/caller id! compared to wind unlimited talk, 50 texts and call control.

  14. Mobilicity doesn’t look attractive at all, at least for the average university student who doesn’t want to peg down $65 for everything in the world, but who still wants some data on their phone, such a “social blackberry”. They should’ve learned something from WIND’s problems and sucessess.

Still hoping WIND will get better plans by the time I’m out of my contract at the end of this year, or I’ll be switching to Koodo.

  16. Here is the deal.. Public mobile came and vanish. They were just a joke. Now mobilicity and WINDS seem to have better and good plans but mobilicity has that great old trend of charging 911 and blah blah fees.

Seems to me only WIND is going to be Big # 1 soon..

    Go Wind Go!

  17. @Angel,
Mobilicity allows you to add the BIS onto any plan. ie… you could add the BIS service onto the $25 plan, have unlimited local talk and also caller ID, and then with the BIS have unlimited data, blackberry messaging, and blackberry email. Other companies require you to sign an expensive contract with blackberrys, Mobilicity does not.

    @5Gs
Mobilicity does not charge for 911, set-up fees, or anything of that nature. No contract, you pay up front so how would they charge you?

  18. I’d just like to point out that #4 is NOT true, Mobilicity will not automatically start charging you when you are roaming. First off, to let you know you are roaming your handset will say “CDN roaming,” and unless you have money deposited in a pay-per-use feature on your account called “MyWallet” you won’t be able to call or text while roaming…so if you want to keep yourself from accidentally spending money, you can.

Mobilicity’s goal is to keep things simple, thus why they don’t have dozens of add-ons to confuse customers.

  21. i think that all of you have the right mindset,
but wind can’t bash mobilicity becasue every wind
customer wishes that they did not sign up with wind.
as for mobilicity they have great plans and features
but im not sure if it is smart to come out with a 3G
network this late in the year when 4G networking will
be released soon. what i hope people to watch is Public
Mobile, they have only released 1 plan, with 3 features.
Personally i think they are waitng to see what these new
companies are doing before they comepletely step in and
crush the competition with better value and more savings
    to the customer.

  23. Buyer beware!! I am new at Wind and the coverage is not good. I am down by the lake near Brown’s Line and have almost no service. No data either. The customer support line says a 38 minute wait the last time I called to get tech support to improve service in their so called Home Zone. Something must be going on. I can’t even activate on their community website. What is happening? They better pull up there socks soon or I’m out.

  24. Isn’t it amazing to see that as soon as new competition comes on stream, immediately all the the Wind folks start blowing farts… I mean wind.

If Wind is afraid of a little competition then they have a serious inferiority complex typical of a weakling who screams obscenities with no merit. They know deep down their network & customer service sucks big time and their only special promo plans alone can’t win customers from the big 3 or from new incumbents. Basic economics, if you keep dropping your price and STILL don’t have market share, eventually you’ll GO UNDER – Fast!

  25. I am impressed with Mobilicity’s plans. I spoke with their sales rep and I was told that I won’t have to pay roaming as long as I am within their “city” coverage whether I will be in Toronto, Vancouver or Ottawa. I will get this confirmed by a few other reps. I am on Wind’s $35 plan currently but will switch to Mobilicity’s $35 plan because it gives me unlimited texting which wind does not. Also, I spend approximately $20/month on International calls for a few hours but now I can get unlimited International calling with Mobilicity for $20/month. That truly is a real value to me.

  28. Hey night hawk, yeah you should switch to mobilicity if you doing international activities. But, don’t forget its the early stages of this plan soo WIND might offer the same thing. I am on WIND now I find it really good signal now. But, I want to wait to see if mobilicity stabilizes. Also, Mobilicity doesnt have a furum where you can find out if there are problems or not, even though they have online puchases.

If you want to compare wind with call quality it should be compared to the magic jack another crappy attempt to bring value with no service.

  38. with this company you cant add call waiting, data, or voicemail uniless you are on a certain price plan that includes thoes features.. so basically you cant say, hey mobilicity give me 25 dollar plan with call waiting and voicemail add on.. they will say NO… in comparison, WIND does seem alot better with their plans but both compnies need to add some android devices if they want to keep their customer base by the time the new iphone 4g comes out, other wise alot of ppl will go back to the 3 incumbents and sign a 3 year plan.. i for example.. left bell mobility to come to wind.. and now im tired of waiting for them to launch an android phone.. if they dont have 1 by the time the new iphone comes out.. im going sign a contract and get the new iphone from fido.. (fido will most likely have the new iphone as they had the previous 2 models)

  39. Ok, first this is not by wind, you can clearly click on kate o’brien name and see she writes for mobile syrup, so thats not cool. Nevertheless I will rebuttal for Mobilicity on each fact. Also I work for them
1-True: but keep in mind Mobilicity is not trying to be Canada wide, they are after the small urban area, and with that in mind, plans prices can stay low
2-True: but at $0.20/minutes flat rate for local or long distance, I don’t think most people will complain
3-somewhat true-you can teather and stream, but true no P2P and the 5mb is prorated. And really, who uses their cell phone to download an mp3 these days?
4-Absolutely false- there are no bills with Mobilicity, the money used for roaming comes out of your wallet, so if you have no money in there you can’t get charged extra nor can you accept or make the call, and your phone will say Canadian roaming once outside the area, and we own and operate all our own towers in our zone unlike wind, so it won’t randomly switch to Rogers. In fact if initiate a call in the GTA and drive outside the calling area the call will drop to make you aware that you are roaming now, and that’s smart!
5-somewhat true the total does seem stupid at $100 but Kate forgot to mention that the Sony Ericisson phone is also $100, how convenient. our 9700 is $50 more though, our 5230 is $20 less with a free blue tooth, but our Huawei is 519 is $20 more, so whatever i guess.
6-true- but how many people really use voicemail, if someone calls me and leaves one I never check it, I just see who called via caller-id and i call them back, or they just text me if its that important
7- True- but there is a reason for that, no credit checks or bills are even sent out, obviously no contracts either, most people rather do that. You can even sign up with a fake name and address if you want.
8-Somewhat True- global roaming is not our target client. And US roaming with T-Mobile is in the works hopefully within the month on their 3G network as they also are using Band IV/1700.
9-Somewhat True- She worded this very cleaver, you do get province and nation wide calling on all plans…to any other wind phone. you can look it up yourself, but we’re trying to keep things simple with not all these add-on options. and 50 text for $35 with wind is a joke, on our $35 plan you get unlimited NA texting, not ro mention unlimited global texting on the $55 plan. And I don’t even know the last time someone used call forwarding
10-HA – This is my favorite one, wind is doing this, because as you can easily read on their website blog, people are pissed with them right now, so they better offer some good promotions or else no one will sign up with them. Make a good product and people will pay what ever the normal rate is. When was the last time Apple had a big sale? Do you think that is by accident or on purpose?

So that’s it, I’m bias for Mobilicity, but at the same time giving kudos for what Wind is getting right. But if your using this website you probably can research most of this stuff on your own anyways. I’ve worked for every cell company and I can say Mobilicity is actually getting it somewhat right, its not perfect, but we’re getting there. As for Kate, if you’re going to publish something on this website, do your research, I mean this isn’t amateur hour, if you’re on Mobile Syrup’s payroll they should fire you for some of this slander. Hire me instead!
    -Michael

  43. mobilicity is just starting out wind has already been in canada for some time. Mobilicity will expand over time. In my city mobilicity has way better promotions than wind. And better plans than any other wireless company. Wind says $45 for voicemail hear this. for $45 you can get (and these are all unlimited). text and picture messaging, local calling, caller i.d., mobilicity to mobilicity calling, voicemail, call waiting call forwarding, 3 way calling, province wide long distance, canadian long distance, U.S. long distance, and global txting, but you can add data for an extra $10 or blackberry internet service for $5. like seriously what more could you want. IT smokes wind right out of the water lol.

Wonderland grounds are not covered, my phone looses signal and goes to roaming. text are very delayed, data is sometimes at night 800 download. I switched to chatr and now have a great reception everywhere.

  47. I just joined Mobilicity back to school plan for $25/month which has unlimited local, unlimited text, unlimited data (!) and caller id.

Although there isn’t tethering, I get a good data speed with the plan and I live near roncesvalles, and work near the toronto island airport.

A new android iphone clone cost me 99$, better than any tab out there.
