  1. Interesting but I’d like to see them offer these plans for the iPhone or high end Android devices. BlackBerry’s never, ever use heavy data (unless tethering). I’m a HEAVY Blackberry user and have never came close to my 500MB/mo.

We’ll see how truly ‘unlimited’ it is when they have iPhones on their network.

  2. oh the title was a bit misleading; i thought they were adding new voice plans! nonetheless these data plans seem to offer good bang for your buck (especially being 3g and all)

  3. I don’t understand why there is a difference between blackberry and all other smart phones. Data is data.

  4. And so it begins… They enter the market with claims of being simple and unlimited. Then they realize consumers aren’t simple and don’t all need unlimited. So they add a new plan here and some new options there… and voila they end up just like very other carrier already in the market! Except without any customers :-P

  5. Plans are awesome, and I’m pretty sure devices like the Google Nexus would fall under their BB plans, just unofficially since they don’t sell the device itself.

I’m sure the 20 buck plan would fit most BB users and the 35 plan would be for people who tether.

I don’t see where they can complain, these plans blow any horrible plans from the other companies out of the water.

  6. Andrew: These plans are available on any device that works on their network. Obviously not the iPhone, but it would work on Androids such as the Nexus One, and any other high-end devices that are brought out as compatible with T-Mobile US’ network.

  7. These are awesome deals for the $20 500MB. Add that with the $45 unlimited, and you’ve got unlimited everything aside from data for $65 a month. Sweet deal. This is really tipping my hat to switch over now.

  8. I like, when will WIND get some new phones?

I’ve heard unlocking a phone kills the warranty…

  9. Really pleased to see these new plans. Now let’s hope that the big 3 will try to compete a bit so that those of us in Windless areas can benefit!

Aside from Wind, data prices haven’t really budged in the last couple of years (aside from some minor adjustments when the SAFs were scrapped etc).

  10. @ Mike Gardner

data is data, except BB uses a special server that compresses data up to 7 times, thus severely reducing what is actually consumed. Unless tethering, at which point, its the same as any other phone

  11. That 500MB for Blackberry is more than enough for most users. I barely use 100MB. Even with a bit of streaming, 500MB is plenty. You should get more if you want to tether.

On a N900, on the other hand, I rack can easily rack up 8GB a month.

  13. Charles in Vancouver: Of course, however, as the customer base grows and usage skyrockets (with advancing mobile and adoption of tethering) I’ll be interested to see how long these ‘unlimited’ plans stay without some sort of fine print.

  14. @Andrew – there is already fine print in that Wind *may* throttle unlimited data plan users after 5 GB. So after 5 GB you may find your speed decreased (by an unspecified amount), but you will not incur overages and you will not be denied service. Personally, I think that’s a reasonable limitation for a $35 plan – especially given that *none* of the big 3 offer anything comparable.

  15. TNSF guess you never walked to the wind store its pretty packed to me. So if they had no customers they wouldn’t be around right now…

  16. Hi there,
I work at wind and just to clear up any confusion, the plans are available for any smartphone, if you are using a non-blackberry device you will use the “mobile” data addons as opposed to the “blackberry” data addons. The only difference lies in the 10$ where blackberry users do not get browsing or data, only your email, bbm and select social media apps, where the mobile social gets 50mb data. Also note that wifi is NOT available when the 10$ blackberry option is selected.

I’m glad that wind introduced these options to consumers, I have had a ton of customers asking for an in-between option so it was definitely a right move on wind’s part. It was hard keeping this a secret when so many people ask for it every day!

  17. i like these new data plans, but i think they still need a fix on there voice plans. 65 bucks a month is still pricey compared to other countries, and that’s still more then what i pay. isn’t this suppose to be competition? where is it?

  18. @ TSNF : What is it with you people that have nothing but negative things to say about Wind??? We all complain that the “Big 3″ are ripping us all off, so Wind comes into existence and offers something WAY better. What is it that you want from Wind? Free service??? The DO have to make SOME profit in order to stay in business.
Stop complaining and rejoice with the rest of us that we now have a more viable option for wireless service!

  20. NO WIFI on the $10 social blackberry plan?!? That’s absurd! Wifi is one of the best features on a blackberry and you guys cripple it. Thanks a lot Wind.

  24. Wifi isn’t something they need to advertise since they don’t charge you for it. It doesn’t mean they cripple it…it’s just not something that concerns them- Wifi is between you and whomever you get your hotspot from.

The WIFI is actually remotely disabled by RIM when you add the Social Blackberry, so say thanks a lot to them and not Wind.

  27. @Joe: You -CAN’T- be serious. Wifi has nothing to do with the plans. If the Blackberry has Wifi, then it can use Wifi.

  28. @Maha Valio: I am dead serious! If wifi has nothing to do with the plans why does the wind site say “WiFi is available with this add-on” on the $20 Charged BB data option? They don’t say it’s blocked on the $10 option but according to many folks here it is blocked!

  29. 15. How do I connect to a WiFi network?
WiFi is available if you use your BlackBerry for voice only or if you subscribe to Infinite BlackBerry. If you subscriber to Social BlackBerry, the BlackBerry Internet Service disables the use of WiFi.

Sorry I can only post this part but I looked up just because everyone was making me second guess what I said.
I could be entirely wrong but I think it is some sort of agreement with RIM.

  30. I found there’s too much parsing of words when the carriers talk data. A lot of times it not so much what they tell you, but what they don’t tell you and you find out later. The Data issue is just going to keep getting hotter as more and more people consolidate voice & data services.
