Report: New entrants to capture 22% of the market by year end 2014

The well respected Convergence Consulting Group have released their latest Report: “The Battle for the Canadian Couch Potato: Bundling, Television Internet, Telephone, Wireless”. It gives a revised forecast of the Canadian Wireless market.

Some quick takeaways from the Report show that by the end of 2014 new entrants EastLink, Mobilicity, Public Mobile, Shaw, Videotron, and Wind Mobile will have 22% of the market (in terms of subscribers).

Convergence notes that price plans have been slowly dropping since 2008. The report includes comparison of carrier prices (not including handsets, bundled discounts, or roaming charges) and when they compared new entrant Wind Mobile’s all-in-plan to other carriers they found it approximately 25-50% less expensive. When comparing just voice, Convergence found that both Public Mobile and Wind could be up to 50% less, for the heavy voice user, than the competitors.

“We expect that the new entrant cable wireless players will also offer highly competitive pricing,” said Convergence President, Brahm Eiley.
