Mobile Marketing Association opens Canadian Council

Spending in mobile media is expected to reach $67 million in Canada by 2011 ($14.6 billion globally) and today the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) have announced the official opening of a Canadian Council, now joining other countries such as Austria, Germany, India, Philippines, South Africa, Spain, Turkiye and the UK. Heading the Canadian region is Michael O’Farrell who has over 15 years of mobile experience and has co-author of Mobile Internet For Dummies.

There are over 25 founding member companies with plans to double the membership by the end of 2010. The founding members include: ADO Strategies, Alcatel-Lucent, AllScenes, Atimi Software, Carlson Marketing, Comscore, Fjord Interactive (Cossette), VoCoMo (First Media Group), iLoop Mobile, Impact Mobile, LavaLife, Maritz Canada, Microsoft, Mobi Marketer, MolsonCoors, MyThum Interactive, Olive Media, Ontario College of Art & Design, The Weather Network (Pelmorex), Proximity (BBDO), Remedy Communications, Sybase 365, TAGGA Media, Transcontinental Media, Wavefront AC, Western Union, Wmode, Yellow Pages Group and Yahoo! Canada.

Federico Pisani Massamormile, MMA’s Global Chairman said “The launch of our MMA Canada Council is a reflection of the continued growth of mobile marketing and demands for localized focus. In the past few years, the MMA has been able to build a global organization removing barriers to market development allowing for our members to meet regional needs. Canada represents a significant market for mobile and a growing membership base. The MMA is pleased to have a formal presence in the country.”
