A heads up for the Rogers wireless customers out there who have yet to check out your most recent bill. A notice has been included (and now on their website) that “the price for 911 Emergency Access Fee will be changing to $0.75 per month, plus applicable taxes as of April 12th, 2010″.
No reason has been given for the increase, but it could be a trickle down from their recent CRTC mandated investment to improved 911 services.
More here at Rogers
(Thanks Michael!)
This is nonsense, it’s like everyday they add a new fee

Riiiiight.
It is time the Government does something to protect consumers… oh wait, they have no reason to do that, consumers to sponsor the campaign of elected people. Corporations do.

More and more I feel the incentive to switch to Wind grow…. I can’t wait to tell Rogers to bugger off. I’m just waiting to hear about what the gov’t decides about foreign carriers opening up in Canada.

Lol… if you’re frustrated about erroneous billing you definitely do NOT want to switch to WIND! Their billing system is totally ludacris. You guessed it… I am an ex WIND customer… I bought into the hype, but got stung badly.

Can’t Rogers customers get out of their contract for this change in pricing? What does the fine print say?

I’m pretty sure the fine print says something like, “No mana cost, any land type. Rogers pwnz all customers with lvl10 bogus feez. Can be cast at any point in contract. You lose.”

yes, you bought into wind right when they started, that’s at your own risk. If you buy anything when it first starts, there are usually bugs and kinks to work out. However since wind is new and the other carriers have been screwing us for probably at least a decade now. Technically wind can screw us for a few years as it’s owed to them. The one thing about wind is that they address and fix their problems right away, other carriers just say eff it.

Stop bitching about the carriers and go after the CRTC. This does not constitute any part of your contract. 911 services are mandatory and the recent, if you simple READ, mandate require more investment to up the quality of 911 services. How has nobody pointed out that Bell has been charging 0.75 since day one? They were the only carrier to charge more than anyone else even with their access fees. The problem isn’t necessarily the carriers, it’s the god damn CRTC and it’s s**t.

You guys realize it adds up to 3.00$ a year right? The petroleum companies do much worse on a weekly basis. Have you seen your grocery bill lately? I’d love to see any of you operate a business in this present economy, and not raise your rates.
Now, if you want to be fair, go cry about other every other company as well.

*yawn* people need to seriously relax…its a fracking quarter. Just take out of your $5.00 venti latte your sipping while driving your SUV. And its for 911 and a CRTC mandate. Come on…

ur serious? It justifies raising fees? Do you know how much profit carriers were making while others were suffering? The rogers guy talks about competing, how in God’s green earth are you competing by raising rates?

Im no fan of rogers by any means but I agree some people here need to relax big time It’s a minimal fee increase that if no one had pointed out most people would never had noticed to begin with
It’s to help pay for an upgrade to a 911 system that was mandated by a govt agency Rogers has no choice but to upgrade
and finally why should rogers ( or any company) dip into there profit margin to pay for this when a tiny fee increase that only 1% of user at most would even notice would help pay for it?
Plenty of Rogers decisions are questionable or even down right frustrating but this one is simple good business sense

this makes no sense..why are they charging us for 911 fees? you go to a payphone and you don’t need to pay $0.50 for it – it’s free! you use a prepaid phone with no money in it, and it still works when you dial 911.
