Apple sues HTC for infringing on iPhone’s IU patents

The lawsuits keep coming these days. Everyone mobile manufacturer seems to be making the most of protecting their patents. Apple has issued a statement today that boldly goes after HTC for infringing on 20 Apple iPhone UI patents.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO states “We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We’ve decided to do something about it. We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours.”

It’ll be interesting to see how this actually will work itself out. HTC has many their new Sense UI and also helped create the UI for the Nexus One.

  3. I’m SO sick of Apple suing people. They don’t have to worry about multitouch if they can keep stepping up their game with the iPhone. Most people will buy the iPhone regardless anyway

  6. US patents sucks…
    Everything is patented in US…
This bullshit have almost nothing good for the consumer…
I hope Apple is gonna loose this one OR HTC will simply leave the US market.

  9. @Mathieu – Exactly

Whats next apple? you gonna file a patent for the letter “A”….you don’t own the world…google does :)

j/k – but this is another wonderful example of the lengths Apple will go to try to gain market share.

Contrary to popular belief, the iPhone is not the Jesus phone.

    P.S. I really hate Apple.

  10. This coming from a company that stole Creative’s scrolling patent for the Ipod, including many other things.

  11. Apparently the patents are very general, like scrolling on a touchscreen or unlocking a phone on a touchscreen using a swipe or knowing the state of the user. Do the Americans have anything that protect against a monopoly? Probably not…

  12. What is it with Apple, they are always bitching about something. This includes thier users you can’t talk to these people, they think Apple is it. Nothing else is good enough nor will they admit something else may be better or equal.

  13. Patenting “rotating” the screen? Really? That gets approved? Let’s just hope these generic patents get invalidated.

I usually like and approve of apple… but this is ridiculous

  14. I think HTC has improved on Apple’s patents and created an superior experience, which is allowed under patent law.
