Rogers Q4 2009 results: 400,000 smartphone devices were activated

Rogers has released their Q4 2009 results and according to the report it states they increased their subscriber base by 109,000 and activated an astonishing 400,000 smartphone devices (“predominantly iPhone, BlackBerry and Android devices”). Rogers states that “subscribers with smartphones now represent 31% of the overall postpaid subscriber base”. Other important stats is that their wireless data revenue increased by almost 45% to $384 million. Data revenue now represents 24% of total network revenue (increase of 6% when compared to lat year).

Rogers does acknowledge the number of new subscribers is low and “primarily reflects slower overall market growth, increased competitive intensity in certain segments of the market, and the unusually high number of additions during the second half of 2008 following the launch of the iPhone in Canada.”

Nadir Mohamed, President and CEO of Rogers said “Against a tough economic backdrop, we delivered solid financial and operating results during the fourth quarter. Looking ahead, we are extremely well positioned with a terrific asset mix and strong customer demand for our products and services.”
