680News gets an iPhone app that streams live video traffic reports

680News has released an iPhone app that gives you up-to-the-minute news, weather and more importantly traffic updates. All the news you want is live but the traffic cams are even live too via video streams (you can set up the roads you want to watch so you don’t have to sit in traffic). Sounds like people might be downloading this app, checking traffic while driving… perfect app to introduce when the law comes into effect to ban the use of hand held devices while driving.

This is a free app and from what we are informed it’s only available for Rogers and Fido customers only (680News is a Rogers radio station).

Check it out here (iTunes Link)

  1. Rogers is a company full of crooks. You don’t see Rogers restricting access to the 680 News website for people that don’t have a Rogers IP address! What’s the difference here? And all apps are supposed to work with iPhone and the iPod touch. Doesn’t look like it will work over WiFi when you initially run it, therefore, Rogers fails and Apple should lay down the law.

  2. I agree Chris, pretty dumb of Rogers – it would not hurt them one bit to let Bell or Telus users use this app.
Besides wouldnt Roger’s be happy with the ad revenue generated from the Bell n Telus user’s using the app?

  3. The app is restricted to Rogers and Fido customers?! That’s ridiculous. What is the purpose of 680 doing that?
