Fido launches “CityFido PrePaid” for $45

Fido has launched the CityFido PrePaid option and if you’re into prepaid it’s pretty decent. For $45 you get 1,000 in-zone anytime local minutes (billed by the minute), unlimited incoming/outgoing SMS messages, call display, voicemail and call waiting. Out of zone rates and Long Distance are about $0.10 higher than everyone else at $0.40 a minute but still ok. In addition, outgoing SMS to the U.S. or international is $0.25 per text.

One thing you must do is read all the fine print and be sure to check out the coverage zones… just so you fully understand what you’re getting into. This is available in nine cities across Canada: Toronto, London, Ottawa/Gatineau, Calgary,Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria.    More here at Fido

    3. Where’s affordable data access in these packages? I’d happily trade 500 minutes for 50MB of data. But since Fido doesn’t even mention data on this website, I assume it’s priced at their regular astronomical $50 per MB for prepaid users. This really needs to change!

    6. Actually, WIND is the best.

For $45, you get unlimited NATIONWIDE calling — for now within a limited GTA/Hamilton/Calgary Home Zone, yes, but eventually spreading to the entire country except for Quebec. Much better than Fido’s single city plan.

I think this is a good move for prepaid customers.
