Wind Mobile is continuing to build out their network. They have announced today that their “network team is busy, busy, busy!” and over the next 8-10 weeks they will be “adding more than 60 sites in our GTA and Calgary Home Zones” to get better coverage.
Wind has had their share of problems though and have said “we’re not pretending that we got everything right day one”. Since launching they’ve had issues with porting numbers over, port blocking for internet, network coverage, mixed messaging for the home and away zone, towers, roaming… Today based on customer feedback the areas that will be worked on are the following over the next few weeks:
- The Eglinton & Don Mills, and Bayview & Davisville neighbourhoods in Toronto
- Downtown and Southeast Hamilton, plus Ancaster
- North Burlington & Oakville
- Along Queen Street in Mississauga
- North Brampton
- Saddle Ridge, Country Hills, and Chestermere in Calgary
For those in Ottawa and Edmonton… are you ready for Wind?
I live in the mississauga area, i use to get 2 bars on my phone from inside my house, now i Get a whopping 5 BARS with my WIND PHONE!!!
Im really happy with my Always Talk plan for $35 and the customer service…
U would expect issues when u join a new cell phone comany, i think WIND is doing there best fixing all there issues

Over the next 56-70 days, they’ll be adding 60 sites? That doesn’t really seem to be news worthy lol

Is Wind Away disabled? Are they testing it? What’s going on?
Can’t seem to get a straight answer from them.

What are you talking about?! I don’t understand how people think that all these roaming charges are charged by WIND they are charges that rogers makes!!! Wind gets little to no money off of the roaming clients!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s no different than going on a trip with your phone, it’s the company’s network that you are on that gets the money from you roaming!

apparently artbungler is under the popular misconception that Rome was built in a day. It is big news because a wireless company is actually listening to their customers and is acting on it. That is a very big deal.

Poor Vancouver (me)
.
Great news for WIND customers though. It’s also nice to see their commitment in the sacrifice of potential profits (back to me frowning in BC).

To michael, Rogers sends the information to Wind it is up to them to charge the customer or not, you would be surprised how much money they make of it ! Don’t forget Rogers needs to Resell it at a good price ! Rogers is also reselling it to Videotron and the make large profit of reselling it to there customers !!!

Until Wind ups their coverage to include Kitchener and the surrounding areas, there’s no way that I’ll be switching over. That being said, as soon as they do, I’ll be telling Rogers to go screw themselves and signing up with Wind.

apparently yaright hasn’t read their previous announcement that they put up 10 towers a day. So this seems like they’re talking about the same old stuff, but a bit less impressive.

If you read the article then you would realize that they’re not talking about the same old stuff. They’re adding towers to areas where they were having a significant amount of problems and to those customers, it’s a big deal. To the people who want join wind, it shows they listened and are acting. That is another big deal.

Ditto artbungler. WIND has said that they will be putting up 10 towers a day, here’s a link to WIND employee saying so. http://www.windmobile.ca/community/ideas/detail/10413/#comment16937
Now I’m not slamming WIND for not having their network up and running at the drop of a hat but they should not have employees spreading false rumors.
Everyone including WIND, knows that the faster they put up towers the faster they’ll expand and people will join. So I’m sure there is reasons why they’re not moving faster.
That being said I know when they launch in Edmonton I’m going to wait a little bit for their coverage to expand before I join. Well that and to see if the next Iphone is AWS.

As far as the next iPhone goes, I’m beginning to think that maybe it will be one of the first HSPA+ data phones around. Either that or one of the first 3G/4G phones around, especially since 4G is now live in parts of Europe and undergoing trials down in the USA. Not to mention, Bell and Telus made the switch to HSPA as a stepping stone towards LTE, so it may not be too far off for us here in the great white north.
Concerning WIND, I’ll be honest, I’m very glad to see them listening to their people. Communication and discussion is key to a thriving business. The only reason I won’t be signing up with them any time too soon (besides the remaining 2 years of my Telus contract) is because they have no home zones in parts of Ontario I frequent… let’s not even discuss the remote regions of Quebec I’ve been known to visit -_- Telus gives me coverage there…. but I don’t want to carry 2 phones, let alone two cellular bills… so unfortunately not for me… yet…

I hate to tell you this but i am now having SERIOUS problems with rogers chatr. I thought not receiving 1 call on friday is bad but fine (they got fast busy signal for over 3 hours and tried calling me on it with full bars beside me and same problem), My brother JUST called me form work (toronto dt), because his manager is pissed off at him because he gets the same thing, a fast busy signal when being called from some landlines!! He wants me to call customer service on his behalf, which I am going to do. I am calling CHATR in 5 mins. I don’t understand why this is happening on rogers network, on Fido I have had NO PROBLEMS WITH GETTING CALLS like this at all. NO WORRIES they say on their website, YA RIGHT
