Prince Edward Island now joins Newfoundland & Labrador, Quebec, Nova Scotia Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia to ban cellphone use while driving. Similar to other provinces they will start issuing warnings if you’re caught talking/texting/surfing the web and using your GPS device while driving… then over time police will ticket you to the tune of $250 to $400 (plus three demerit points).
Looks like we are almost a full deck with cellphone bans across our Canada… Alberta is next up with a Sprint 2010 target.
when is nb getting on this list?

I can’t understand why Alberta is last on every safety issue, eg:: seat belt legislation ,now our premier says, the cellphone /text issue “it’s not on my priority list”.
How “stupid”, no wonder everyone is losing respect for this man and his government. Where are our MLAs, or are they mussled.
Happy to see the Maritimes have more “intestinal fortitude”

Does that mean that all 28 drivers in PEI have to pull over to talk? Rather draconian measure !!

Doris Rowledge,
The reason Alberta is last is because the have more common sense than the rest of the country but cave to stupid political correctness.
No one is losing respect for “this man” and government because he and them are more reasonable than you and those that think like you.

I have almost been run over twice, at intersections, in Vancouver the past two weeks from people on their cell phones. I’m putting my fist through their window next time they get close. I sick of this crap. Get off the phone already!

I support the ban but here in Quebec I still see lots of people yacking away on their hand-held phones. I too have almost been run over a number of times in downtown MTL at intersections. Last week near home a guy came screaming around a corner, well on my side of the yellow line, and I had to pull onto the shoulder to avoid a collision. I wish the fines were harsher, and the ban was enforced more vigorously by the police.

This ban has only made driving worse. Now all I see on the roads to and from work is slow moving drivers swerving all over the road. I guess they think if they drive really really slow it’s okay to use them. Now they are also hiding them in thier laps so they are always looking down while texting. I will never understand what’s so important that you have to text someone while driving? I can understand talking to them on the phone but texting?

Come on New Brunswick, get with the times !
I cannot believe we are not banned here yet, when it is clearly a life saving measure to stop people from talking/texting while driving.
NB – It is not 1980 anymore !

Steve,
Assuming you are telling the truth about nearly twice being run over (and I have my doubts since I live there and walk everywhere and it has yet to happen to me) you are only noticing those on the phone.
Everytime I have a close call it is when they are doing nothing! They are simply bad drivers.
