“Independent researchers” say Rogers is Canada’s reliable network

With more wireless carriers coming out in 2010 the focus will still be on who is faster, more reliable, largest etc… but the ongoing saga between Rogers, Bell and TELUS is still happening these days. We found a newspaper ad today that sports Rogers boldly declaring their network as being the one that’s proven and reliable.

It’s well known that TELUS went after Rogers for using the word “most” in their “most reliable network” advertisements… Justice Christopher Grauer of the British Columbia Supreme Court sided with TELUS and Rogers removed the false claim. This did not stop them though as they made the same claim against Bell and succeeded. Justice Cullen stated Bell must stop saying they are the “most reliable” because their new HSPA network is too new.

The Rogers newspaper ad reads “How do you define reliability? 9 out of 10 Canadians agree it’s about proving oneself over time.* Rogers rolled out Canada’s first GSM network in 2001, and we’ve continued to fine-tune and perfect it ever since. Today, independent researchers routinely test-drive our network for voice and data performance, confirming our reputation as Canada’s reliable network. So it’s no wonder over 8 million customers count on us for their wireless needs.”

*According to an independent consumer survey conducted in November 2009. CANADA’S RELIABLE NETWORK.”

We’ve said this before but wouldn’t it be great if the “independent consumer survey” that was conducted actually become a public document. If it’s such a benchmark of reliability and truth then the facts will speak for themselves and people will eventually flock to the “most reliable” network. Perhaps in 2010 our request will solidify into something really tangible. One can dream rather than continually speculating of so-called facts.

  1. If they want to be number 1 at something, they should all compete to see which one of them is the most evil. I think Rogers might actually win first place. They could also go for who has the most policies that don’t make sense, who found the best way to screw people after they got rid of the system access fee.

  3. Uhm… Didn’t Microcell roll out the first GSM network in Canada in 1996?

I guess Rogers ads aren’t very reliable.

  5. Who gives a s**t whom has the best network? You’re still robbing Canadians for everything they have. Our ISPs are nothing but spoiled rich kids to the world.

Maybe they should stop the pointless ‘reliability’ war and start a price war.

  6. Well, I don’t know about the data or 3G networks, but I have to say Rogers seems to have a reliable service for their regular mobiles. I’ve never had a dropped call or even any interference talking on my Rogers phone.

Now, it’s customer service where they really need to pick up the pace, as far as I’m concerned. Of course, I have no idea if Bell or Telus customer service is any better.

  7. Yeah I couldn’t care less what these guys say anymore. Anyone with half a brain knows that they’re all full of it and want to continue robbing us no matter how crappy their service is.

  10. Here’s how I explain what reliability isn’t…

“With Rogers I had several dropped calls every day regardless of if I was at home, work, etc.”

    Here’s how I explain what reliability is…

“I’m with a company that leases airtime on the new Bellus network… have been since Dec 4 and I have not had 1 single dropped call.”
