Those of you who are thinking about giving WIND a go and just wanting to buy a SIM card… you might be in luck. They state on their company FAQ that: “To everyone who’s commented about SIM card only sales, thank you very much for your feedback. We’re listening. The WIND team is working diligently towards a solution where you will be able to have service with us without having to purchase a handset. The goal is to have this in place by the end of next week.”
Clearly everything is still a work in progress over at WIND, few handsets, limited home coverage. How many of you are liking what WIND has to offer?

Now if they can include voicemail in all the voice plan and better handset, they’ll just need to cover Vancouver™. Maybe in 2010™ ?

They are listening… if they keep that up, the other 3 are gonna have big trouble on their hands because it will be a very dynamic and constantly evolving market.

I like what they have but wish their GTA coverage was true GTA (like up to Newmarket) and that they were launching in Ottawa outta the gate.. once the coverage is filled in WIND will be excellent. Keeping my eye on DAVE Wireless too though..

Interesting stuff… Definatly NOT what I’d call a national network though… Their concept of an “away” zone is kind of indicative of how limited they are and how truly dependent on (likely rogers) to support their claim of national coverage. They don’t call it roaming, but that’s pretty much what it is. Definatly not for anyone more than 20 minutes away from TO (or any major city they’ll end up covering).

All the complainers. Do you realize that they were only allowed to launch a week ago?
Frankly I’m very impressed by the logistics that this company has to deal with to get this much accomplished.

Going from Rogers/Fido to Wind seems like a bad idea to me. They roam on the Rogers network so your money ends up going back to Rogers anyways.
From what I understand, selling SIM cards doesn’t really help cause most of the phones you get won’t run on their network, different frequency of HSPA (not 100% sure but if this isn’t true then never mind.)
They have long distance charges for data at 10 cents for 25 kb, even if you have the “unlimited plan”. where as Rogers roaming data in the states is 0.6 cents per kb and 3 cents per mb overage charge with any plans. I don’t think you need to do the math to know that’s expensive.
Also, if you are on a call, once you hit the away and home boarder the call gets drop, and you have to re-establish the call (ie place the call again)
I don’t think its wrong to complain, they are listening right? That’s probably what they want anyways. And they were launched on Wednesday in Toronto and Friday in Calgary, so not even a week.
It’s going to be hard for a new entrant to compete with the 3 telcos, towers don’t grow from the ground and Rogers Bell and Telus already have a very established network with the ability to offer crazy low rates if they have to retain their customers.
The rates that Wind has to offer isn’t significantly lower than what all the buzz was about. I am still going to be paying 80-90 for my voice and data combo. On top of that I have to pay practically full price for the handset. In the end I will probably spend more at Wind then with Rogers where every 2 years I am eligible for a discount price for a handset upgrade.
In my opinion, Wind is kinda like the palm pre, big buzz thats supposed to hurt the 3 major carriers, but it just seems like its looking to be an epic fail. Wind chill is not a factor for Rogers Bell and Telus. Looks like Wind is just bringing through a light breeze. Looks like Globalive is breaking wind. On man I can sit hear all day coming up with these.

Well all insults aside… they’re shaping out to be another microcell. Big promises, can be q good deal for a small number of people, but in the end too +any limitations to gain mass appeal.

I think we have to give them a chance. Like everyone has said, they are new. I don’t think we can expect that they will have massive coverage just like rogers. (right away)
Yes, they roam on Rogers sometimes. It is like CityFido, but remember they cover from NewMarket all the way down to Hamilton.
They are building 10 towers or so a day, so I would expect by the end of 2010 their network will be much larger.
I have a Nokia N900 works fine on Wind. I look forward to them offering SIM only purchases.
In some other countries paying full price for a handset is the norm. Canadians are still getting use to the idea of having no contracts, but I think that will change.
Remember Wind is selling handsets at BELOW cost.
AND you can own a Blackberry and use voice only. They don’t force you to have a data plan–it’s your choice.

Give them time, they just launched only a few days ago. They already cover more area than Microcell did when they first launched. At least WIND has a future forecast to cover all of Canada in the next 2 years, way more than what we can say about Microcell.

Remember that they’re backed by Orascom a mobile Giant who said they were willing to back Wind… I’m sure with that kind of Capital Investment it shouldn’t take them that long with that kind of money to build a huge coverage area. Again they started on wednesday, you can’t just open up shop and dominate the business…Haters all a bunch of haters
