If you have 27 minutes to spare, check out the complete WIND Mobile launch announcement in Toronto. The enthusiasm was incredibly high and the execs even give a few jabs at the incumbents… declaring they are the new player is in town (actually only in Toronto and Calgary for now).
What are your thoughts of the price plans, devices, calling areas?

I read that these phone are locke to Wind. So someone can buy the bb 9700 and unblock it to work with any provider?

They have roaming agreements with Rogers but it isn’t a good one. If you make a call in your “home” area on a wind tower and then leave that area and have to connect to a Rogers tower the call will drop and on your screen it will say “away” area and you will have to call that person back on the Rogers tower. That would get frustrating

I think the plans sound pretty terrible.
The $15 plan isn’t even worth considering, the $35 plan doesn’t have voicemail and only has 50 txts, (my parents use more then that!), and if you add voicemail and unlimited text to the $35 plan you’re at $45 so you might as well get the $45 plan and have nation wide calling. Therefore I feel like for most people you pretty much have to get the $45 plan.
Then if you want data on a Blackberry you’re stuck with a $35 data plan. Add this to the $45 voice plan and you’re at $90 with tax. (Which I think is completely unreasonable)
And this is all without getting into the whole ‘home area’ calling and roaming charges etc.
I just feel like there was all this hype and I feel kind of let down. Does anyone else feel this way or see my logic?
I guess there’s still hope for DAVE.

they’re just starting and it appears to be a very good start so far. Most of the big corporations that are doing well today are based on the cult philosophy. It’s energetic and you can get your employees excited who then in turn get your customers excited about what they’re buying. Frankly, it works. I’d work for wind and take a pay cut just for an employee discount alone. They cover from Oshawa to Stoney creek which is good enough for me and I’d be saving half of what I pay to bell for my defective product that I have now. I pay 30 dollars per month just to call from oshawa to toronto because they don’t have provincial long distance, only nationwide long distance. Even if the person has a toronto number and they live in whitby, I still have to pay long distance charges. That is pretty stupid to me. Forgive me if I’m wrong but I’d rather join a cult then pay stupid fees.

all hype, i dont see anything good about the plans let alone the coverage is a joke. at the end of the all, the costs of a plan is just about the same.
