A couple weeks ago new wireless entrant Dave Wireless changed up their website and stated “Competition is Coming”. This is a familiar statement as the other new entrants (Wind and Public Mobile)are saying the same line, however what is new for Dave is the request not no sign a contract this season.
A release titled “Tis the season NOT to lock into a wireless contract”. Direct line that continues to lead us to believe Dave will be launching their network in January 2010… plus at the same time an announcement of their new brand name and direction.
Sara Moore,VP of Marketing for Dave said “Don’t lock into a wireless contract you’ll regret. At DAVE Wireless, we’re gearing up to launch our state-of-the-art 3G network and bring Canadians the wireless service and value they deserve.”
So… this convincing you to stay with your current carrier for a few more weeks? Tempted to go with “Dave Wireless”
I think it’s quite a blunder on their part not to give a date this late into the game. I’m itching to sign on again with Bell for a new phone since its Christmas and with not concrete info on whether they launch, I just might do it.

I lost my phone recently, and have a few months left in my 3 year contract (I’ll just pay my way out), I really want a new phone, but I’m going to hold out to see what they offer. I’m excited!

I’m dying to get a new phone and re-sign with Bell for it but the new plans are terrible. Even an hour on the phone with customer retention proved to be unsucessful! The current combo plans don’t even include any texting which automatically boosts monthly costs.
Looks like I have no option but to wait for the competition to arrive in the New Year!

Bell does give texting with Smart Combo plans… you get the option.

I have been waiting since Industry Canada announced the Auction. I can wait another month or two or three
In my case it all depends what type of phones and plans they will offer.
It has to be reasonably priced plans and smart phones.

I concur.
Considering the garbage plans that Robelus is offering us I’ll wait a little while longer as well.

didn’t we just go through all of this with wind? why are these new companies so clueless. “soon” isn’t good enough.

im still waiting.. makes it easyer in that i will never lock in to a cellphone contract again!! unless its a high end device free on 18 to 24 month contract of $20 to $60 a month plans all with text and unlimited data, and range of mins etc… not thinking this will happin in canada ((like tha rest of tha world)) so bring on a good network, cheap data! ill spend $1000 on a new device just to NOT lock in to a 3year term of inflated costs & overpriced phones

I am really curious to see what country offers, free high-end phones on a 18-24 month agreement with a $20-60 range monthly price plan…. more like 60-110 Euros per month.

Why isn’t DAVE ready now? If they can be ready in January then they could have been ready now.
Instead, the are asking consumers to not buy a phone during the holidays which happens to be the best time of year to buy a phone. Instead they are asking us to wait for the unknown.
They should be offering a little taste of what exactly consumers should be waiting for.

why not advertise rates and phones to keep people from signing contracts, besides if they are launching in january its not that far off it wouldnt hurt them. and that whole “launching soon” thing is irritating

Most of the big 3 will match any new promotions anyway. Loss and Retention is a great department if you are thinking of leaving anyways. These new entrants aren’t going to have the volume of phones to choose from. I think we’ll be fine either way

It’s kind of dumb for these folks not to release details of their plans. With Wind’s cheapest plan going for $15, coupled with their two all-inclusive plans, it will be hard for Dave to get into the game later on.
Show us your card, Dave!!
