Public Mobile will be launching their new wireless network soon, from what we hear it’ll be really soon. Ever since they put their company blog together they’ve developed somewhat of a personality… We’ve heard about what they are going to offer Canadians when it comes to wireless, heard about their technology and even heard how they will be different.
Today it’s a different scene as another vid has popped up with interviews of Public Mobile employees on how their service is “Build for Canada”. It’s not hidden that Public Mobile will offer a $40 monthly flat rate unlimited talk and text plan to those only in Ontario and Quebec.
The vid is pretty basic but beats around the bush and ever so slightly bashes the current carriers in every way:
My Canada includes BC and Alberta Public Mobile’s Canada is Upper Canada and Lower Canada. I hope they buy up some of that Novus spectrum (same G band) or have a network share with them so it can work out west.

Public Mobile doesn’t interest me for a number of reasons.
No data plans (at least not for quite some time after launch).
Extremely limited footprint.
Run by a former Rogers AND Bell Executive! (Danger Will Robinson, Danger!)
Finally, Alek Kristajic has already stated publicly in the debate among the 3 new main entrants, that Public will likely sell off to one of the incumbents once the five year moratorium is up.

While I pretty much agree with everything Randy has said, I will take a look at their plans and phones before making a final decision.
However I agree that both Public Mobile and DAVE/Something Else are destined to become just shell companies for the Cartel like Fido/Virgin.

they’ll jsut get bought out. the incumbents are jsut going to price amtch them. $40 for unlimited talk and text isn’t really really impressive and can and will be easily matched by the big 3 and since they’re only a regional carrier without much heft (owned by and ex rogers exec I believe) they will just get bought out.
also i know there’s that whole specific target market they’re goin for, but if I were looking for a first phone and I see publicmobile and one of the incumbents if they have the same plan, there’s no way I go with public.

Apparently they think that anything but Ontario & Quebec isn’t part of “the Canadian population”. FAIL.
