It's light, has a high-quality display (test is very, very crisp) and has a nice set of features not normally seen an an entry-level "classic" phone. Things like a microSD card slot (mine came with a 1GB card), headset jack, microUSB connector so you can sync with your computer and perform updates, as well as backup your settings. And a 2MP camera to boot, not to mention FM radio and Bluetooth. It cost me $120 without a contract. Very reasonable. Highly recommended for those just looking for a basic phone. And it is free on a 3-year contract currently. That seems to change every week though (other weeks, you'll pay $30). Honestly though, just cough up the $120 and go without a contract.
