TELUS named in “Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures of 2009″

canada10Another day, another piece of recognition for TELUS. This time its for being one of “Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures of 2009″… and the only telecom company named.

Recruitment firm Waterstone Human Capital put the list together after doing a survey of 500 senior Canadian executives who were asked to nominate a Canadian organizations they most admires for having a “corporate culture that impacts performance”.

The top 10 in alphabetical order, are: Acklands-Grainger Inc., Aviva Insurance Company of Canada, Ceridian Canada Ltd., Corus Entertainment, Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, GoodLife Fitness, Medavie Blue Cross, Starbucks Coffee Canada, Telus, Walmart Canada

From the study they found that 88% believe their current leadership has led to the evolution of their organization’s corporate culture. 82% said that “leading by example” is a key strategy used to align culture and 75% of executives said that cultural fit is more important than necessary skills.

Marty Parker, managing director of Waterstone Human Capital said “The reason these organizations are outperforming is because of phenomenal leadership and because of the commitment – from the top – to aligning corporate culture. These leaders are focused on behaviour. And behaviour drives results.”

    3. I guess last month’s announcement that they are reducing the benefits for management employees is good culture. Elimination of Health Spending Account, reduction of days off, and vacation accrual limits that are lower than bargaining unit. Sounds AWESOME!

    4. What a load of BS, asking top level management about corporate culture is pathetic because they have no clue how things go in the frontline, or general operations.
      How about you ask the bottom & mid level workers and their managers, youll see a completely different list up there.

    6. When companies like Walmart win, it clearly shows these internal industry recognitions aren’t worth the paper they are written on.
      A corporate culture can be strong, but so is blue cheese.
      It really means these companies stink. Hold your nose.
