Bell and TELUS to launch iPhone 3GS in November?
With Bell coming out and stating that they will be launching their HSPA network, the Globe has taken it a step further to announce they will also launch the beloved Apple iPhone at the same time.
Globe reporter Simon Avery stated “Bell Canada and Telus Corp. will begin selling the iPhone next month, breaking the stranglehold on the device that their rival Rogers Communications Inc. has held for more than a year…Neither Bell nor Telus would confirm that they would add the iPhone to their lineups. Apple also declined to comment. But people familiar with the matter said the two carriers would announce a working partnership with Apple as early as Tuesday or Wednesday and begin selling the device in time for the launch of their new network.”
There will be many new devices that Bell will be launching. Apart from the iPhone we’ve heard about the BlackBerry Bold 9700, Blackberry Bold 9000, BlackBerry 8530, Nokia N97, Nokia 2730, Nokia 6350, LG Xenon, Samsung T746, Novatel HSPA Turbo Stick, Samsung Omnia 2

In Sep, 2 Telus reps told me on the phone that their iphone would come out in Jan or Feb of next year. I don’t think there was any reasons for them to mislead me, as they were trying stop me from switching to Rogers.

This is bogus. Telus doesn’t even have an android phone yet, or any decent laptop modems for the new network yet. Even if they did this, the HSPA rollout would be so slow/small/problematic the buyers would have a terrible experience. Bell has bigger problems, but at least has the Pre.

While I think the iPhone is a tremendous device, it still suffers from lackluster QWERTY functionality, at least for my giant fingers (lol). I’d love to see the addition of a slide out keyboard in the future. That would truly make this device unbeatable. As it stands I’m moving more towards something HTC and Android based.

what bugs me is that it looks like telus restrict you with the data plan. it says you can only stream video from youtube and VOD. since the plans will all equal min $60/mth for the iphone (and we know they will), why not pick rogers still for free use of your bandwidth?
