Does anyone know if the HSPA requires new antennas? I’m in east central Alberta close to a Telus tower and they have installed a lot of hardware on it lately.

As an insider in “Insider”, I am very clear that Bell and Telus will not be able to launch WCDMA network completely even by the end of this year.

For Telus, the Vancouver will be of high priority, and will be the first place to be launched. But for the whole network providing HSPA+ based on WCDMA, maybe we need to wait for another year.

The same situation in Bell. Wait for another year please. That is an optimistic estimation.

Telus is mainly for the west part of Canada while Bell is for east part of Canada. But Telus/Bell is using MOCN (multiple operator same core network) access technology to enable Telus/Bell subscriber to be able to receive network service anywhere in Canada.

As I already stated, I do not know any details of the HSPA launch. TELUS keeps things very tight-lipped. Anyone who has info on the launch or any of the things you’re inquiring about will have signed an agreement to not release any details pre-launch. So even if I did know, there is no way I would risk my job to tell people. It’s clearly on it’s way as this article shows. Give it a little more time and you’ll have all the answers you need. I am just as excited as you are, but even I need to be patient to find these things out. http://hspa.gsmworld.com is a fairly good reference on the subject of HSPA and it’s possiblities. I’m most excited about the movement to LTE after HSPA. That will bring us to a whole new level of wireless!

Acutally, Telus is based in BC. Telus was formed from Alberta Gov’t Telephones and Edmonton Telephones and based out of Edmonton until Telus and BCTel merged and moved the headquarters to Burnaby.

Neil, as a Telus employee, do you have any information at all about the launch date in Vancouver (and the rest of Canada)? I’d think a Telus insider would know the launch date at the very least, even if you’re unsure of the other details.

Will the HSPA network actually have speeds of 14.0 Mbps downlink and 5.8 Mbps uplink?

Will Telus be offering the Apple iPhone 3GS?

I think these are the questions everybody has on this forum. Can you answer any of them?

I think Samsung Omnia 2 is will launch.
That’s why Omnia is so cheap(3 year contract). They have to sell left over.

As a TELUS employee I find it very amusing to read all these speculations. Even I don’t know the details of our own network launch! But I often see people who like to think they know everything about it. Like STEVE pointed out already, if you frequent this or other sites like Engadget Mobile, Boy Genius Report, Phone Scoop, Howard Forums, etc.. you could probably find out enough info to answer most of your questions. Even the TELUS site has some very basic info for anyone who has no idea what it’s all about… http://www.telusmobility.com/hspa. The trick is to avoid the forum comments in most cases. Read the articles. Most people who say they know something is fact in a discussion thread, are usually just stating their own opinion. Always keep in mind that the articles will state that what they are reporting on isn’t fact, or that it came from a “reliable source”. It may not be truth, but to report it, it has to be fairly possible. Anyways, that’s my rant.
