Wind Mobile (Formally Globalive Wireless) came out swinging last week the announcement of their new brand. many questions over the past few months have circled around what devices, plans and price point they will enter the market at.
We caught a glimpse of this with a unconfirmed leaked document of their line-up. Chairman Tony Lacavera stated “that is not our document“. So the speculation continues. Today, Chris Robbins, Chief Customer Officer of WIND has written a post titled “What I Can Tell You About Our Service”.
Still no grand insight into the stuff we really want to learn about, but he does continue the momentum of how a customer could possibly be treated. Chris says “We will not spend a lot of time or money marketing to you. “Marketing” as a verb is dead. Some marketing people have yet to accept that, but it’s true. One-way, push marketing that focuses on just “selling” doesn’t work. So instead of marketing to you, we’ll listen to you”.
Wind (Globalive) has always taken the approach of expressing themselves through new media. Making a connection with the people who could potentially become their customer. They know they have zero market share today and also know that building trust is one of the first steps to gaining a customer. Wind Mobile is by far leading the way between the new wireless entrants (DAVE Wirleless and Public Mobile)… but will all this translate into business for them?
Robbins continues to give more detail as their core service beliefs such as:
“Value: That means more for less. Think better pricing. Global levels of pricing and approach. And we’re not charging for fictional things like system access fee, 911, … gravity, … oxygen,
Simplicity: Do people really want 20 different price plans for a commodity like voice. Really? Not something we’re going to do. Ask yourself how many plans you’d expect. That’s right.
Control: If your plan is $50, your bill should be $50. That’s control. Do you know what a kilobyte of usage looks like? I don’t. Do you even know how many minutes you use on a monthly basis? I don’t. Control means not having to care. And control means you stay with us because you want to, not because you have to. No contracts.
Dialogue: It’s a conversation. Although people tend to think statically – “what are you bringing to market”? – the reality is that we’ll get some things right (a lot, I think), and we’ll get some things wrong. How will we know? By listening. Are you going to like everything we do from day one? Maybe not (probably not), but that’s the point. It isn’t about “marketing”. It’s about a focus on customers, plus some humility combined with experience and expertise, and a killer team of people to make it happen.”
wow this is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! no contracts!!!!! yes finally

Here is what I like about the “no contract” aspect. There will be (likely) ONE PRICE for the phone & service. Bell is abolishing upgrade subsidies. As it is now, you can pay, with taxes, nearly one thousand dollars for a fancy phone, and you still have to pay full price for the service! This is like paying the full price for a car AND still have to make $500/month payments. Only telcos get away with this. The alternative is to be locked in for eternity (aka 3-year contract)when you know your phone will be obsolete next year and the “contract” leaves you at the mercy of greedy piranhas that keep charging more for sms, SAF, etc since the “fine print” allows them open access to your wallet.
This no-contract feature is very interesting indeed. Bellus and Rogers may just have to stop screwing their customers if they want to stay in business. What a concept;-)

Hey Toy and Me,
Your comparison with the car is ridiculous….How about, Its like paying for the car and the THE GAS!! The price of the handset is not integrated into the rate…the handset gets subsidized after approx 9 months of re-occuring bills…. The phone and service are independant…get your facts straight before you make comments like this.
BTW, the brutal part about these new carriers…is that they`re simply looking to exit in the next couple of years and big bought out by the big 3…..HOWS that for innovation. Analysts predict, but only one MAY survive.
Lets watch…but…I`ll say it now …Told ya so…

> “get your facts straight before you make comments like this”
you should take your own advice:
> “The phone and service are independant”.
Absolutely Not True. Historically the length of the SERVICE by contract is in fact linked to the price of the phone.
The intent of ToyandMes’ point is valid, if you abolish the upgrade subsidy you are in fact asking for full price phone yet end up paying the same monthly fee. Who benefits from this? Bell does – as long as the customer doesn’t leave – and until now they would have kept customers only because no matter which provider you go to – you still get bent over the bushell barrel.
Let’s see if Wind can change that!

This would be considered a reasonable plan for any humane thinking individual who understands that cell phones are super super cheap in china, and are being middle man’d for HUGE profits to other countries.. since they also for sure cause cancer since there is satelite radiation passing through you all day to get to your phone, as we are surrounded with infrared from police planes and radio tower frequency bombardment.. we are being frequency frictioned to death.. now considering all that:
$5 / month (infinite talk time!)
$15 / month (ad free!)
(get sponsors to help pay for the temp data storage for text messaging, etc.)
$20 / month (1000 text messages + infinite talk time)
$30 / month (infinite texting + infinite talk time)
doesn’t make sense why it would cost any more for a cell phone plan than it does for a land line plan.. considering there is LESS materials being used to communicate. (no phone lines, etc.)
also.. why the hell do phones that barely do shit all cost as much as laptops that are sooooo much more of a machine to do soooo much more.. just like these goofy bastids selling portable dvd players for $500+ it doesn’t jive with anyone with a brain.. how can you charge $700 for just microsoft office, but then only $300 for the entire xp operating system for example.. WE ARE BEING RIPPED OFF.. and the thing is the BIG business’ are being ripped off even more.. whether it is when having to pay $100+ / hr for tech support compared to only $40 for residential for computer services, etc.. or if it is when thinking about hospitals for example where if you look in the catalogues they order their equipment from.. all the prices are marked up INSANELY just because it’s tax payer money buying the stuff for the hospital.. it’s bullshit!! wake up people! like seriously.. i pair of hospital scissors are like $10 normally at a store such as a sporting place that sells it for medic kits, then you look at the hospital catalogue, and the exact same scissors are over $50 !!! it’s crazy.. it’s time to return to natural life.. exit the rat race, and let it all go, because it’s just a shackle.

how can the cell companies justify charging someone $700 just because they don’t have a long distance plan, and the next person who does only pays like $40 / month for long distance infinite time.. so if a person doesn’t have long distance plan, and uses a bunch of long distance, why would you not just charge them $40, and say you used a LOT of long distance this month, and you might as well just pay for the long distance plan, and if you want it removed from your account let us know.. seriously how can you justify $700 just to talk on a phone.. it’s called taking advantage of anyone you can take advantage of and charging whatever the hell you want no matter how unreasonable it is.. so you guys say you want to change the mobile situation? well i just told you how.. be reasonable.. and you will have everyone as a customer, as well as you will have all the big companies trying to bribe you all day to be like them so they don’t lose their businesses.. don’t take the bribes.. dodge the bullets when they attempt to assassinate you and do something for the PEOPLE for once, and the people will give back 10 fold.
just make sure you invest in HUGE amounts of server space and you should be good, other than that you won’t catch me ever getting a cell phone again cause i know this is bullshit, and that after a short time you guys will decide to join the big companies and will up all your costs slowly like every other company that lies about being different does..
such as banks.. giving 36% on a dollar back in 1940 and now it’s like 0.001% on a dollar.. lol.. how do we keep falling for this pretend good guy crap..
WAKE UP PEOPLE! it’s just another soon to be HUGE corporation, promising false garbage, and they will make up for it somehow else, like listening in to your calls and having fema come pick you up when you say something wrong about the queen.. haha.. idiots. .wake up.. they NEVER do anything for us!! you know this already! it’s all about taking your hard earned MONEY, and giving it to the vatican, while giving you fake digital numbers in return..
1929 – do your research people.. – 1929 !!!!

THE ONLY way i would get a cell phone, is if the phone was $50 for a iPHONE and had a $20/month infinite plan for both texting and talk time.. so when it’s like that let me know.. eludz@hotmail.com
and until then STOP LYING about being good people trying to help people, when you are charging $500 for junk pieces of crap made in asia for pennies.

(i know you are going to delete my other messages that were to you guys at WIND to see basically)
this is a real post now.. leave it on the forum or it will prove you guys are truly not on the side of the people.
reasonable plans:
$20 / month (period.)
*includes 1000minutes talk time, 1000 text messages, voice mail, name & number display, call waiting name and number display, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling, etc. (basically all features possible included, because it should be.. how can you charge someone for ‘call waiting, or number & name display’ that is retarded.. and you know it.. it doesn’t cost anything to turn on a feature, so why charge someone for it? OH it’s called business? oh.. i thought you were trying to change the mobile world? well to change it you need to first be on the people’s side and do things that are reasonable instead of what works to scam vulnerable people.
and then $100 for a iPHONE or blackberry, and then $50 for any other type of phone..
that would be HALF reasonable.. anything else is a complete rip off no matter what anyone says..
